[Windows Update Failed: Error 0x8007001e] 2025-01 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 22H2 for x64-based Systems (KB5049981)

Hello,

My PC is having trouble with the latest KB5049981 update (2025-01). After downloading and installing the update, I restart my PC but then I get to a screen that says the update couldn't be completed / undoing changes. This happens several times of attempting to re-download and re-install the update. It gives me an error code "0x8007001e" but I believe that seems to be a general error code.

I have enough space on my C: drive, and I also performed a disk cleanup just in case. But I still can't get the update to install.

After searching online for results, it seems like this issue may be dependent on each individual PC.

EDIT: I've also ran Powershell to do "sfc /scannow" and it tells me this result: "Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them.
For online repairs, details are included in the CBS log file located at
windir\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. For example C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. For offline
repairs, details are included in the log file provided by the /OFFLOGFILE flag."

Here's my OneDrive link to a copy of my CBS.log : CBS.log

EDIT: Entire CBS folder here: CBS

EDIT: setupapi.dev.log here: setupapi.dev.log

Please let me know how this can be resolved.

Thank you!

Here's the SFCFix.txt log: SFCFix.txt

And here's the latest CBS and setupapi.dev.log in the same folder: CBS folder and setupapi.dev.log - v2

I will attempt a repair installation in the meantime

Thanks. The previous file has been fixed. It's another file this time.

0x8007001E is ERROR_READ_FAULT. Please run the following command from admin Command Prompt:

  • chkdsk c: /r

Press Y when you see this prompt:

The type of the file system is NTFS.

Cannot lock current drive.

Chkdsk cannot run because the volume is in use by another

process. Would you like to schedule this volume to be

checked the next time the system restarts? (Y/N)

Restart Windows and let chkdsk finish the scan and repairs.
