Why does my audio get muffled when my Microphone is being used

Whenever I play a game the audio works perfectly, until I use my microphone. For example, if I'm running a game and then start using discord or streaming on twitch my game audio becomes muffled. I've tried everything and nothing works.

    Hello, I'm here to help.

Are you using a Bluetooth headset?

If you are using a Bluetooth headset, this is due to bandwidth issues with Bluetooth. If the microphone is enabled, the Bluetooth headset's speaker will have to go from dual-channel to mono to transmit the microphone's audio data.

The only solution is to disable the microphone on your Bluetooth headset in Settings - System - Sound - Input and use a separate microphone for voice chat.

Please feel free to reply. This is not a live chat channel and I may be in a different time zone than you(UTC +8). As a result, replies may be delayed and I may respond minutes to hours later.

If you have a windows 11 computer and you have muffled sound or music filtered out, 99% of the problem is AI noise reduction. AI can do 2 way noise reduction (reducing noise from your friend's side as well). They are not in the usual places like realtek audio console so nobody can find them to turn it off.

    For Dell computers,

    For acer computers,

    For asus computers,

    For lenovo computers,

There are also a bunch of AI noise cancellation like in nvidia broadcast, obs app, maybe even in discord app. Maybe the discord website doesn't have the AI noise cancellation but the discord app has.

There are a zillion different apps or audio configuration apps that will do this AI noise cancellation, you have to find it yourself.

Bluetooth headphones like AirPods can cause issues. They’re not designed for both high-quality audio and microphone use at the same time. If you use wired headphones you should update drivers or update realtek
