but the pin including letters has always worked until now. ????
Pin only accepting numbers, not letters
The system will not accept alpha characters for pin (will only accept numbers). This applies both to start-up screen and to trying to reset pin. How can I get the system to accept alphabetical characters so I can sign in and/or reset my pin?

By default, PIN is number only.
Are you currently stuck on the sign in page? If so, you need to know your PIN, or use the "forget PIN" option so that you can sign in using your Microsoft account password instead.
Once you are in, go to Settings > Accounts > Sign in options, click on PIN > then you can remove PIN. And when you set it up again, make sure you check the box to include letter and symbols.

2025-04-28T04:49:08+00:00 Same problem. Up until today it has accepted a PIN that had numbers and letters. Now it stopped. It wanted me to sign in to change, but it would not allow me to key in an alpha. So, I checked the box to allow alpha, then I keyed my alpha/num PIN into word, copied it, and then pasted it into the PIN login and it worked.

Unless you specifically enable the option, Windows Hello PINs doesn't include letters and symbols, just numbers.
If you are trying to reset your PIN, you can push "I forgot my PIN" under the sign-in textbox. This will let you enter your password and verify your identity to reset your PIN.
Hope this helps.

2025-03-07T04:45:19+00:00 The N in PIN is Number, it can only be a Number, if it includes an alphabet character it's no longer a PIN, it's a PIC (code) or PIP (password), many systems store PINs cannot store anything except numbers. If a system allows an alphabet character, it will be the first step in the downfall of society.
