Windows 11 2024 update COMPLETELY BREAKS INTERNET CONNETIVITY. IT'S TOTAL ****. The only way I could actually access the internet again, or any apps that access the internet is to restore from a past version.

Who the **** tests this ****. TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE.

This is version 2024-12 Cumulative Update for Windows 11 Version 23H2 for x64-based Systems (KB5048685)

This is for Microsoft. Why would you update Windows 11 with 24h2 and break many folks internet connections???

I fixed my internet connection dropouts with new Ethernet Hardware. I purchased a TP-Link TG3468 PCIe card from Amazon for $15, after weeks and weeks of connection issues (dropouts). The new hardware shows up as Realteck PCIe GbE Family Controller under my PC devices.

It's a shame too you broke the Ethernet adapter that came on my motherboard, an Intel Ethernet I219-V. I read many, many forums and tried many fixes, but with no success. Maybe someday you will get around to fixing what you broke with my old network hardware.

I hope this posting helps others get back up and running without all the connection dropouts.

I found a solution to this today after three months of experiments. Like many people careful with security I implemented a large HOSTS to stop access by bad sites many years ago. When this file gets big, the program DNS Client service becomes very slow. The solution was to disable this service, previous Windows versions allowed this and all things continued to work.

In 24H2 if this service is disabled you lose access to the internet, so it has become mandatory. Previously in 23H2 is just went to the DNS server happily with no caching.

I have emptied my hosts file and have DNS client service running and the internet is working. If you try to put all your entries back in this hosts file, the PC gets extremely slow!

Of course there a large number of variables with this problem, so it may not fix yours, but is worth a check.

I HATE his update! I was connecting my Windows 11 Pro to both of the TVs in the house. One day my computer became buggy and was trying to update and restart. It wouldn't update and restart properly. It took several updates and restarts to properly function... Or so I thought. I went to cast/mirror on my TVs and they both failed tp connect. I did it from my mom's tablet and it connected without an issue, so I then knew it was an issue with my BRAND NEW computer.

    Microsoft, please fix this...

And a few days before Christmas??! Why would you roll out a buggy update right before Christmas?

    Hello,

You can revert to 23H2 by going to Settings > System > Recovery > Go back. If your computer won't turn on as a result of this update, turn your computer on, turn it off before you see spinning sits, turn it on, and repeat this process two to three times. You should see a screen that says "Windows couldn't start properly". Push "See advanced options" > Troubleshoot > "More Options" > "Uninstall Updates" > "Uninstall latest feature update". In both cases, let Windows uninstall the update, and then you should be back to 23H2. Please note though, if it has been more than 10 days since you have upgraded to 24H2, you will have to use the WinRE method (the second method).

    Hope this helps.

Well that reply was probably the most unhelpful and feels a bit mocking to me; as I sit here with an error report that is over 400 issues long. Black screen after log in being one of them. Thankfully it didn't break my Internet.

I am using a surface laptop 4, if anyone can walk me through a fix for that, it might be the best Xmas gift I receive!

    Thanks

    Jae
