Why can't I cast/mirror to my TV anymore?

My Windows 11 pro PC (Dell Latitude 5550) was mirroring/casting just fine until a recent MS update. I couldn't connect to my Roku TV or both of my Firesticks.

I figured it was an issue with my computer (the update) as my computer is still relatively new, not even a year old.

I uninstalled the latest update and I thought it was working fine again but it wasn't it.

I visited my sister over the holidays. She has two LG smart TVs and my computer connected fine to both of her TVs, I don't know what to do. I've Googled, Binged, and wrapped my mind around how to figure out how to figure this issue out. Does anyone have a solution?

EDIT: I have a Dell PC

Thanks in advance.

    Hello,Cammie246

Welcome to posting in the Microsoft Community.

I understand your situation where your computer is unable to cast or mirror to your Roku TV and Fire Stick device after a Windows update, but the casting works fine on other devices.

Based on your description, Windows Update may have installed new WiFi or display drivers that cause compatibility issues with the screen casting feature. In particular, the screen casting function relies on WiFi Direct technology, which may cause connection failure if the driver is not compatible. I would like to ask you to try the following options to troubleshoot the issue:

    1. Rollback the WiFi driver:
    • Considering that your Windows update may have installed other versions of WiFi drivers that are causing the problem of not being able to connect to both TVs.
    • I would like to ask you to go to your computer manufacturer's website, download the old version of WiFi driver, override and install it into your system then restart your device to observe the situation, I suggest you can try several more versions of the driver to use for testing.
    • After restarting your computer, try to cast the screen again.
    1. Reinstall the screen casting feature:
    • Open Settings > Optional features.
    • Find Wireless Display in the list of installed features and click Uninstall.
    • After uninstalling, go back to the Optional Features page, click Add Feature, search for Wireless Display and reinstall it.
    • After installation, restart your computer and try to cast screen again.

After you refer to the above steps, you can share some information in this thread and I will answer your questions further. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation!

    Best Regards,

I can't tell you how happy I am to have found this post after searching for weeks. My casting feature was working perfectly for months then poof it stopped for seemingly no reason. Your second step was my resolution: The odd thing, when I went into optional features, Wireless Display wasn't even listed as being installed (my computer was up to date with Windows Updates). I had to click on View features and add it like brand new. Regardless, thank you so much! My frustration is now over!!

(fyi, adding it took a very long time for whatever reason.)

I have just purchased a brand new Acer laptop so that I can get Windows 11 to replace my 12 yr old Acer which has Windows 10, because this version will no longer be supported by Microsoft. I have had very frustrating issues trying to cast with Windows 11 to my Samsung the Frame TV, when my old Acer on Windows 10 has no issues at all. Display and Network Adapters, are fine, updated, uninstalled then reinstalled; Wireless displays shows it is ready to be connected; Wireless displayed, installed, uninstalled and reinstalled. I've connected my TV to bluetooth, removed it, restarted it and still does not work. The Samsung TV is recognized as an Available Display when selecting the Cast feature, it shows Connecting on both laptop and TV, then the red message couldn't connect, appears in the Available Display section. A few times I was able to get it to work by unplugging my TV power source, and restarting my computer, but once I shut my laptop off and turn it back on, the Cast feature does not work. I have read and tried suggestions on numerous posts here as well as youtube fixes for what I am now coming to realize is a very common issue with the latest Windows 11 Dec 30, 2024 update. Is Microsoft working on a fix for this?

I finally fixed it this way: Go to Bluetooth and device settings, remove the device, restart and see if that works. It just did for me and I had this problem the past month.
