How to fix Stop code: INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE and how to fix “PC couldn’t boot properly”

I was in my BIOS and pressed F9 to reset settings to default optimisation. After than I’ve been getting the Stop code: INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE and I’ve been getting “PC couldn’t boot properly”. I chucked my PC into safe mode and got Stop code: INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE

I have no idea if I just need to wait a couple days or if I need to get it repaired or is there a way to repair it myself?

What was I doing in the BIOS looking for a setting to help my gaming experience, did I find it no.

    Dear Dante de Klerk!

    Welcome to the Microsoft Community!

I read your question, and I understand that the issues you are experiencing with "Stop Code: INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE" and "PC did not boot properly" usually means that your computer cannot access the boot device, which could be caused by a BIOS setup change, a hard drive problem, a corrupted OS boot file, or other hardware problem. Here are some steps to fix it:

    BIOS Setup Check

Restore BIOS Settings: You have already tried resetting to defaults by pressing F9, which is the right first step. Make sure to save and exit the BIOS.

Check Boot Device: In the BIOS, check the Boot Order to make sure it is set to boot from your hard drive. Typically, this should be your Windows Boot Manager.

Hard Drive Detection: Check in the BIOS to see if the hard drive is detected. If the hard drive does not show up, it could be a connection or hardware problem.

    Repair Steps

BCD Repair Using Windows Installation USB:

    Create Windows Installation USB:

Download the Windows ISO file from another working PC.

Use Rufus or Media Creation Tool to burn the ISO file to a USB drive.

    Boot to USB:

Insert the USB drive into the PC and choose to boot from USB at boot time. You may need to change the boot order in the BIOS.

After booting from the USB, select your language, time, and keyboard layout, and then select Repair your computer.

In System Recovery Options, select Command Prompt.

    Repair BCD:

In the Command Prompt window, enter the following commands to repair the BCD (Boot Configuration Data):bootrec /fixmbr

    bootrec /fixboot

    bootrec /scanos

    bootrec /rebuildbcd

    Press Enter after each command.

After completing the above steps, remove the USB drive and restart the computer to see if it can boot normally.

    Other checks

Hard drive test: Use the tool provided by the hard drive manufacturer or third-party software such as HD Tune to test the health of the hard drive.

Check hardware connections: Make sure all hard drive connections are secure.

If none of the above steps can solve the problem, professional hardware diagnostics or repair services may be needed. Before taking any further steps, make sure to back up important data in case of unexpected events. I hope these suggestions will help you solve the problem. If you have any other questions, please feel free to let me know.

Thank you for your understanding and support!

I wish you all the best.

    Best regards,

    Greetings Yang. Z

I have reviewed several INACCESSIBLE BOOT DEVICE messages posted and would GREATLY APPRECIATE clarification on the errors which have recently occurred. The BLUE SCREEN appears intermittently, which causes me to reboot.

Following several previous messages on how to create a screenshot of specific references (DISKPART, LIST DISK and LIST VOL) as posted by Robinson Silvestre / Dec 27, 2023.

I have included the specific reference to my situation.

Again thanks in advance and look forward to your support to gain clarity on this matter.

    Respectfully,

    Paul Rivosecchi (******@att.net)

I had the same problem. I shipped my computer to Scott, he works for Data Doctors in Chandler, Arizona. He and another tech named Steve fixed my problem. I do still get a message from Windows to update the Bios. I won't do it until Scott or Steve with Data Doctors tells me to. I can't afford to be down another month. Steve is the tech who actually fixed it. He works out of the home office. You might be able to hire him for a remote session.
