USB Camera not found (was working), usbvideo service had a problem starting (HELP!)

Trying to re-add a canon m50mk2 via USB (streaming hdmi) into ODB (recording app) on win 11 pro box.

It was running ok until I had to blow away some ODB settings, now it cannot find the camera anymore.

I deleted the device in the device manager, now the camera can't be found.

Below are the events showing it not working, below that are the original (successful) events

Note first (success) it ported over from previous OS and driver version was different then when it failed (directly below).

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

Thanks,
Will

I don't know if you found the solution for this, but it seems it was caused by a Windows Update that broke USB cameras and a few other things. There are preview patches available that will eventually come down through the normal Windows Update process, or you can download them directly from the Catalog.

    Windows 10 22H2 - (KB5050081, Details)

    Windows 11 23H2 - (KB5050092, Details)

    Windows 11 24H2 - (KB5050094, Details)

Here's a similar post on this forum for more info: Update KB5049981 on WIN10 and KB5050021 causes problem on usbdevice - Microsoft Community

Oddly, not every KB article page has specific instructions on how to install the .msu update package if you download it from the Catalog link. The page for KB5050094 does, however, and I'll paste it here:

    Updating Windows PC

To apply this update to a running Windows PC, run the following command from an elevated Command Prompt:

    DISM /Online /Add-Package /PackagePath:c:\packages\Windows11.0-KB5050094-x64.msu

Or, run the following command from an elevated Windows PowerShell prompt:

    Add-WindowsPackage -Online -PackagePath "c:\packages\Windows11.0-KB5050094-x64.msu"

    Hi hepmeup.

    Welcome to the Microsoft Community.

Your webcam can't be found after adjusting the ODB, so you removed it from the device manager and now it's not in the device manager either. You can try the following ways to get back your webcam:

    1. Unplug the webcam, turn off the computer, plug in the webcam, and turn on the computer.
    2. Press and hold “Win + R” at the same time, type “devmgmt.msc” in the text box that appears, then click “OK”. You will open the Device Manager.
    3. Click “View (V)” on the top menu bar and select “Show hidden devices”.
    4. Look in the Device Manager to see if there are any unknown devices. (Most likely under the menu called “Other Devices”)

If there is, you can right-click on the program and select “Properties”. You can reinstall the driver for it here.

    1. If not, continue with the following steps.
    2. In the menu bar at the top of the Device Manager window, there is a “Scan for hardware changes” button, which should be located directly below the “Help (H)” button. Click on it.
    3. Wait for Device Manager to automatically install the appropriate driver for your current device.

Now you should be able to find your webcam, if you still can't find it, you can check if there is an unknown device under the “Camera” menu, which is most likely your webcam.

Alternatively, you can visit the official website of your webcam, download the driver for your webcam model and install it manually to see if the webcam can be detected.

As for the settings in the ODB software, I think you should restore them.

    Best Regards,
