Is it safe to install Windows 10 or Windows 11?

Hello,

I am planning to clean up my laptop and reinstall Windows, but I have a few questions. My laptop originally came with Windows 10 Home pre-installed. If I download the Windows 11 ISO from the official Microsoft website, will it install the 24H2 update by default? I have heard that the 24H2 update has some reported bugs.

Given that I use my laptop primarily as a workstation, which version would you recommend installing: Windows 10 or Windows 11?

I would appreciate your guidance on this matter.

Thank you!

Hi, I have Windows 11 24H2 on my workstation. I update it as soon as every official Windows 11 update is released, and I have never had any BSODs in a few years. I use this workstation for heavy work like rendering, compiling programs, etc. and I also produce music as an amateur. I use Ableton Live and I've never had a problem with it.

A BSOD is essentially a self-protection mechanism for the system. Usually only a driver or hardware failure will cause it, I've never seen a system generate a BSOD on its own, either with Windows 10 or Windows 11.

There are indeed times when a BSOD appears only on Windows 11 and works fine on Windows 10. But this is usually due to some incompatible software running at the kernel level, which is usually resolved with a software update.

I am a music producer, and I use my laptop primarily for music production, video creation, and managing my social media accounts, including YouTube. You mentioned that Windows 11 24H2 is better than Windows 10. However, I’ve heard reports about BSOD (Blue Screen of Death) errors in the 24H2 update. If such issues occur, they could disrupt my workflow and potentially compromise my projects.

Could you provide insight into the stability of this version for professional use, particularly in production environments?

    Hello, I'm here to help.

The latest Windows 11 ISO downloaded from Microsoft's website is 24H2.

It varies from person to person as to whether or not it has issues. You may not necessarily be experiencing the same problems as those users who have reported experiencing problems, because you may have completely different software installed and have completely different system configurations. At least I haven't had any problems with my workstation on the 24H2.

I would recommend Windows 11 over Windows 10. While Windows 10 is out of the end of its life cycle and therefore may be more stable, it means you can't get security updates. I believe security is more important for workstations.
