I’m experiencing a persistent issue with my Asus TUF Gaming A15 laptop, running Windows 11. The laptop works perfectly fine when turned on from a fresh shut-down, but after it goes into sleep mode, it becomes significantly slower when waking up.

  • Symptoms:
    • After waking from sleep, the laptop’s performance drops drastically.
    • Disk usage spikes, with the "SYSTEM" process consuming around 14% CPU.
    • SSD response time increases to ~500ms.
    • The system remains slow until I restart the laptop, at which point it returns to normal performance.
    • The issue reoccurs every time the laptop enters sleep mode.
  • Error Logs:
In Event Viewer, I observe several recurring errors related to Disk and COM.
  • Model: Asus TUF Gaming A15
  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 7735HS (16 CPUs, ~3.2 GHz)
  • RAM: 16GB DDR5
  • GPU: Nvidia RTX 4060 (8GB)
  • Storage: SSD (NVMe)
  • OS: Windows 11
  • Connected Devices:
    • Anker USB-C hub with HDMI and Ethernet
    • SteelSeries headset
    • Mouse and keyboard
  • Windows Reinstall: I’ve reinstalled Windows 11 twice, but the issue persists.
  • Drivers: I’ve updated all drivers, including chipset, GPU, and storage drivers, but no improvement.

unfortunately, after updating Bios the problem stays the same, but now while the laptop is lagging if I close the led = hibernation mode turn the device on again the problem disappears.

    what could it be?

    Thanks for the replay,

for the hibernation/sleep settings I was wrong because after a time out the laptop does a suspension which cannot be changed I think, but I made the change to the settings so when I close the lid I do a hibernation as you suggested.,

I found an update to the BIOS which I am downloading now, for the SSD health I did not check because as far as I know the SSD either works or breaks but if you know a way to test the SSD please let me know.

so in conclusion, after installing the BIOS update I will test and let you know.

    hi alaana, welcome in community

i’m Alvise, an indipendent consultant and I can understand your concern and please don't worry I am here to help you

did you used sleep or hibernate? did you tried to enable the hibernation? it works better than sleep and allows you to physically turn off devices

enable hibernation via this command from terminal like admin

    powercfg /hibernate on

in addition, seems a problem with the storage controller, did you checked if there are some bios update available? Is the SSD drive healthy?

    let me know

    Elvis
