"Date Acquired" Vs. "Date Taken"

I have a photo that's "date acquired" is 6/22/2018 at 9:03 am and the "date taken" is 6/22/2018 at 10:44 am.  Logically, a photo that hasn't been taken yet can't be acquired. So how is this possible? What's the definition and difference between "date acquired" vs. "date taken" when referring to a photo's details?

Hi Phyllijo, I am Paulo and I'd like to help.

Date Acquired refers to the date and time when a photo was added to a specific device or system, whereas Date Taken indicates the exact date and time when the photo was captured by the camera. For the reason why the "date acquired" is listed before the "date taken" for your photo, here are some possible explanations:

    • The camera's date and time might have been set incorrectly when the photo was taken.
    • If the metadata was manually edited or changed by photo editing software.
    • The photo might have been transferred to another device where the "date acquired" was recorded based on the system date of that device, which could be different from the actual capture date.
    • If the photo was part of a backup and restore process, the "date acquired" might reflect the date when the photo was restored to the device.

    I hope this helps.
