CPU Temp Monitoring Stops Working After A While In Win 11

hello,

I am having a very strange issue. After a while, my CPU monitoring programs will stop updating CPU temperatures. After starting up and loading into windows the temperature is monitoring fine. I looked in bios and it's working fine. However, I like to leave my computer running overnight. There is a good reason for this as I sometimes have a shutdown issue. Basically, sometimes the computer stays running after shutdown. I have been unable to solve that issue. Now my problem is after a while the temp readings for the CPU will just randomly stop working or freeze. It will sit at one temp and not update. It will just be a flat line. It does that in my adrenaline software monitoring and icue. It also was doing it in HWmonitor and coretemp. Basically, all programs stop recording the real-time temp. This is yet another bizarre issue I can't figure out. You would think if it was a bad temp sensor or something it would just record a bad temp or not work period. Why would it work for a day or 2 and then just stop working? I like to know what my CPU temp is for obvious reasons. I can't just ignore my CPU temp readings being broken. I suppose I could but I should be able to monitor them. At least it does show my pump is working and the coolant temperature in ICUE.

I used OCCT last night to stress and test every part of my system and it passed all tests so I have no idea what's going on. I uninstalled icue and disabled performance metrics in adrenaline and so far the sensors have not broken. Knock on wood lol. Basically I have no idea whats wrong with this computer. It could be anything at this point. The fact it passed all the OCCT tests though without issue is good but that doesn't mean there isn't still some issue with the motherboard. I also am finding 24h2 extremely buggy. Anyways thanks very much for your help.

Thank you for your reply. You can run your computer under a certain load and check the issue again to see if it still stays at 46°. Some users choose to use tools like MSI Afterburner to monitor hardware conditions. This tool is provided by a hardware manufacturer, and you might want to give it a try. Please note that I do not recommend any products, and whether you try these suggestions is entirely up to you. I will do my best to help you based on the available information.

Here is the video I made about the problem. I also show how my CPU just randomly runs below base speed and wont go above. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l9-tGBeTiLY&t=343s

thanks for the response. It happened after my computer just being on for a little over 24 hours. As of now the monitoring is working still and the PC has been on for 24 hours. If it's going to stop updating readings I expect it to happen soon.I did update the bios yesterday to the latest version. I highly doubt that will fix it but I tried anyways. Sleep and hibernation are all disabled. The weirdest part is last time it happened the temp froze at 46 degrees. I had made a video a day or so before showing the problem and it also was frozen at 46 degrees on the CPU temp. What are the chances that it freezes on the exact same value? I will insert a picture of what HW monitor looked like. As you can see certain values are not highlighted in blue.

    Hello , RyanLever

    Welcome to Microsoft Community.

I understand your situation; this issue is indeed quite strange and may involve multiple factors. Please rest assured that I will do my best to assist you.

Firstly, the relationship between temperature monitoring programs and hardware sensors is complex. Even if the hardware sensors themselves are not damaged, it is possible that certain software or system processes are causing the monitoring data to fail.

Driver or software conflicts: If the system has been running for a long time, there may be certain drivers or monitoring software conflicting with system resources, leading to temperature readings stopping their updates. They may conflict while communicating with the hardware in the background. It is recommended to update all relevant hardware drivers (graphics card, chipset, and BIOS firmware). Check for software conflicts. Try disabling unnecessary startup items or temporarily uninstalling some monitoring software to see if the issue is resolved. (Also, make sure to check if restarting the program resolves the issue)

Power management settings: Windows power management settings may trigger some issues during long-term operations, especially if sleep or hibernation features are enabled. Sometimes, the CPU or other hardware may be incorrectly suspended by the system, causing temperature readings to stop updating. Please disable "Fast Startup" in the power settings. Ensure that any settings that might cause the system to enter sleep or low-power mode are turned off.

If nothing is found, you can try closing and exiting running programs one by one when you encounter the problem until no more items can be closed, then reopen the monitoring program to see if there are any changes. You can also consider using software provided by the chip manufacturer to check the temperatures.

I hope this information can help you. If the problem still exists, please let me know your progress. I am happy to continue providing assistance.

    Best wishes
