HP Reverb G2 + Windows 11 24H2 Not Working Need Help

Hello,

I have a problem with a VR Headset(HP Reverb G2) and the latest Windows 11 Update(24H2). The HP Reverb G2 requires Microsoft's Mixed Reality Portal software, which they have discontinued and no longer works at all in the latest Windows 11 24H2 Update. What are the solutions/workarounds to get this perfectly fine VR Headset, that works on another machine I haven't upgraded just fine, now that Microsoft has stopped supporting that piece of critical software for this device? Are their any plans for a compatible replacement? Is HP doing something about this? Or did HP and Microsoft pretty much just shove a giant stick up everyone's bum and expect them not to be upset about this? If I use this headset on a Linux machine will the headset work as intended?

Any suggestions or comments on the matter would be greatly appreciated.

That's correct at this time 24H2 makes the Reverb G2 a paperweight full stop!

I don't think it's consistent but when I went to upgrade I did get a warning in the compatibility thing saying that WMR (Mixed reality) was being dropped in 24H2 although it wasn't clear that the headset would not work with Steam or the like.

I thought well then at least I'll uninstall the Mixed Reality Portal. But I was wrong, you can't uninstall it because it is listed as a “system component”. Seriously Windows? Is this program supposed to stay installed on my computer forever so that I'll always remember that you made 2 HDM's a piece of junk?

By the way... I work with the G2.

Hi. I got Co-Pilot to translate to English so I can understand your message:

    From Co-Pilot

It sounds like you're going through a really frustrating experience with your VR setup and Microsoft's support. I get how important it is to have everything working smoothly, especially considering the investment you've made in both hardware and games.

To help you better, let's start by translating your message into English. Here's the translation:

    Translated Message:

I fully agree with you... many people are feeling the same way right now, and Microsoft doesn't care about it, as evidenced by the nonsensical answers you receive. Steam VR only works in conjunction with WMR just because the organization is now focusing on Meta, which is also not needed in the world. I want and expect a constructive solution. It is not only the expensive headset but also the number of games I have purchased on Steam :( I can't even downgrade the settings as my computer has new hardware, including a motherboard, graphics card, and SSD (acquired for better VR performance), and it updated to 24H2 right away... unfortunately... so no previous version.

Microsoft should fall flat on its face :) Will I get my 799 € back from them now? I don't think so... On the contrary, I pay monthly for the Game Pass for my kids at double the rate :( and have been since it came out...

So, Microsoft, what can I expect, and as soon as possible, please, as my kids are very disappointed and rightly say Windows is bad. They have also already asked me about alternative operating systems... very, very sad... shame on you, Bill... disappointed.

    From Co-Pilot

I understand your frustration and disappointment. To address your concerns effectively, I'd recommend reaching out to Microsoft's customer support directly for a more personalized solution. They can provide specific guidance on your VR setup and discuss any possible refunds or compensation related to your purchase.

If you'd like, I can help you draft a message to Microsoft's support team, or assist you with any other questions you might have. 😊

It's a shame you can't go back to 23H2 Hopefully, someone will develop a driver?

(Es ist schade, dass du nicht zu 23H2 zurückkehren kannst. Hoffentlich entwickelt jemand einen Treiber dafür!) ?

Yes, it sucks! I've got mine on eBay now before the floodgates open!! Got myself a Quest 3 the other day it's nice not having a load of wires everywhere. Won't be buying HP again.
