I've migrated my system from Windows 10 to Windows 11 and now my Dell DW316 DVD drive no longer works. I get a message in the Device Manager Events log which says that the Device Settings were not migrated from the previous OS installation due to partial or ambiguous device match. How do I get the device working please?

I thnk I've solved the problem. I was looking through the various USB entries in device manager and their event logs. I noticed that one entry referenced my DVD drive and said that a particular file was missing. Having checked that it was indeed missing I copied it from another PC and put it into the windows driver folder and the DVD now works. So success!
Thanks for your suggestions anyway.
Mike
Thanks Aaron for the reply. I've done most of those things without succes( I haven't yet tried the regedit suggestion which I will do). I had a look at the Device Properties log on the Device Manager and found the entry pictured below. Looking at various sites on the net one suggestion seemed to be that the "confusion" might be to do with the USB root hub and that it should be uninstalled. If I do this and restart the computer will the root hub be automatically reinstalled? I don't want to go down this route and find myself in a worse position than I am now!
I'd be grateful for any further thoughts.
Happy New Year!
Mike
Hello, MikePhillips9
Welcome to the Microsoft community.
Thank you for your feedback. The issue of your Dell DW316 DVD drive not working properly after Windows 11 upgrade may be due to driver compatibility or system setup issues. Here are some troubleshooting options:
Check the physical connections:
Make sure the USB connection between the DVD drive and your computer is good.
Try using different USB ports, especially those connected directly to the motherboard instead of the front panel.
Open Device Manager:
Press Windows + X and select “Device Manager”.
Locate the DVD drive:
Under “DVD/CD-ROM Drives”, locate your Dell DW316 drive. It may display a yellow exclamation mark, indicating a problem.
Update the driver:
Right-click on the DVD drive and select “Update Driver”.
Select “Automatically search for updated driver software” to have the system find and install the driver automatically.
Install the driver manually:
If automatic updates do not resolve the issue, visit the official Dell support page.
Enter your device model number (DW316), download the latest driver and install it manually.
Uninstall and reinstall the driver:
Right-click on the DVD drive and select “Uninstall Device”.
Once the uninstallation is complete, disconnect the DVD drive and remove it from the Device Manager.
Reconnect the DVD drive and let Windows automatically redetect and reinstall the driver.
Sometimes, the registry entries may affect the normal operation of your DVD drive after system upgrade. Please operate the registry carefully and backup the registry before operation.
Open Registry Editor:
Press Windows + R, type regedit and press Enter.
Navigate to the registry entry:
Access the following path:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\atapi\Controller0
Create a new item:
Right click on Controller0 and select “New” -> “DWORD (32-bit) Value”.
Name it EnumDevice1 and set the value to 1.
Restart the computer:
Close the registry editor and restart your computer to see if the problem is solved.

Certain third-party software can help to re-detect and install the driver.
Use driver update software:
For example, Driver Booster or Snappy Driver Installer. These tools can scan your system and automatically download and install missing or outdated drivers.
