    Hi Kelvin,

I'm Sumit, here to answer your query at the Microsoft Community.

Apologies for any inconvenience you are experiencing. I am happy to help you today.

Officially, Windows 12 does not exist as of today. Media reports also confirm this:

Because of this, it's unlikely that we'll see a major Windows product release this year. Windows 11 is the current focus for Microsoft, and it wouldn't make much sense to introduce a "Windows 12" to the market while it's trying to get Windows 10 users to upgrade to Windows 11. Instead, we'll likely see a continuation of what we've seen in recent months: AI features and quality-of-life improvements added to the familiar Windows 11 user experience via continuous updates.

As long as you buy a Processor that was shipped after 2022, I believe you should be good to go for the future release of Windows. I think it is 11th Generation and Newer.

Moreover, if you don't have any specific requirements like Gaming, we strongly urge you to give Copilot+PC a try which gives 18 hours + Battery life.

Hope that helps, and rely on us for any further inquiries. All the best.

Currently there are no official plans or information about a WINDOWS OS version 12. So, it isn't easy buying a computer that is future-proofed. Before it was just buying bigger and faster, but now security plays a higher role.

Are you running WIN 10 or WIN 11? And how old are your current pc?

Thanks for your prompt reply. My pc is about 10 years old, with win 10 os, I'm unable to upgrade to win11 due to an unsupported cpu (i5 6500). I was hoping to take advantage of the sale offers available this week, but didn't want to buy one that may not be upgradable in 5 years time, windows 11 end date.

So your setup is pretty much like mine. Last time I went from WIN XP to WIN 10, after buying a new computer, never running WIN 7 or 8.

I found an article that might interest you, though the article is almost 6 months old, https://techbullion.com/future-proofing-your-gaming-pc-how-to-build-a-system-that-lasts/

I also recommend waiting a couple of months, I'm sure another sale will eventually come. Google "future proof desktop pc", and browse the market and options. I'm sure your current computer can do for a while.
