I recently installed McAfee on my HP windows 11 pc. It came with HP wolf pro security, which I tried to uninstall, but the HP sure run non compliant notification won't go away. Anyone know anything about removal of this?

    Hi DDK105

    Welcome to Microsoft Community.

Based on your description, I understand that you have an HP Windows 11 computer and I understand very well how you feel about the residual HP Sure Run notification issue you are experiencing after uninstalling HP Wolf Security!

I will give you some suggestions and options to hopefully solve your problem or find out what is causing it! However, as this is a first reply with little information and the problem needs to be investigated in different ways, please understand and provide more information (pictures would be great!) in your reply. Thank you very much!

Option 1: Verify that HP Wolf Security has been completely uninstalled.

    1. Uninstallation via System Settings

Press Win + X, select Applications and Features, find HP Wolf Security or a similarly named program in the list, click “Uninstall” and follow the instructions1 .

If the program is not in the list, it is possible that some of its components have been left behind and need to be cleaned up further.

Please note: HP security programs usually have many dependencies, so we need to uninstall all of them as well!

    1. Check the residual components

Open Task Manager (Ctrl + Shift + Esc), and check whether HP Sure Run, Sure Start and other processes are still running in “Startup” or “Background Processes”. If so, right-click and select “End Task”.

Option 2: Completely disable HP Security Services from the command line, some HP Security Services may be hidden by system level commands.

Click “Windows Logo Key” to open the search bar -> Enter “cmd” in the search bar and open it with administrator privileges -> Please enter the following command

    cd %brs%

    brmanage vsentry disable

    brmanage vsentry system-disable

This will force the underlying components of HP Wolf Security to be disabled.

Option 3: I've personally had this problem before, and it seems to be caused by the registry.

So let's try to deal with the registry issue with HP Sure Run.

Reset the HP Sure Run status.

    1. Open Registry Editor (Win + R type regedit)
    2. Navigate to “HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\HP\SureRun”
    3. Delete or rename this folder
    4. Restart the computer and see if the error still occurs.

Disclaimer: For further protection, back up the registry before you modify it. Then, you can restore the registry if a problem occurs. For more information about how to back up and restore the registry, click How to back up and restore the registry in Windows - Microsoft Support to view the article.

Option 4: HP Sure Start/Sure Run may be integrated with the BIOS, so we also need to enter the BIOS to check.

    1. Visit the support page of HP official website, enter the device model (e.g. EliteBook, ProBook, etc.), download and install the latest BIOS update. (You can also choose not to update the BIOS, but some BIOS versions may not have the relevant settings)
    2. Reboot your computer and enter BIOS setup (press F10 or Esc while booting).
    3. In the Security or Advanced tab, locate the HP Sure Start, Sure Run, or Runtime Intrusion Detection option and set it to Disabled.
    4. Save the settings and exit.

Option 5: Clean up the system residual files

    1. Use an official HP uninstallation tool (e.g. HPIA - HP Image Assistant) to scan and remove residual files.
    2. Manually check the following directories and delete HP related folders:

    C:\Program Files\HP

    C:\Program Files (x86)\HP

    C:\ProgramData\HP

Please note: Before deleting, please make sure to backup in advance to avoid causing other problems.

I personally still recommend scanning and deleting the residual files through the tool provided by the HP brand side.

Option 6: Check compatibility with McAfee to make sure McAfee is not conflicting with HP residual components.

Open the McAfee main interface, go to Live Scan Settings, and temporarily disable protection.

Observe if the notification disappears. If it disappears, you need to add HP related processes as trust items in McAfee.

Option 7: Assuming the problem persists, I recommend that you also synchronize the issue with the computer brand (HP) after-sales or technical support team, who are more familiar with their brand of products and may have had other users report similar issues. They may have already written a fix or a more targeted solution, and it is best to have the brand's (HP) after-sales or technical support staff assist in troubleshooting the problem either remotely or offline.

You can ask the HP technician to provide you with an uninstall tool or a cleanup tool to remove all remaining files and registries from your computer.

If necessary, you can also ask the HP technician to visit your computer remotely and help you troubleshoot the problem!

I sincerely hope that the above information and programs will help you! Please feel free to contact me (Photos related to the question would be great!).

I look forward to hearing back from you.

    Best Regards
