It is only 1 year old. And while playing a simple youtube video it slowed down to a crawl. I tried eliminating unnecessary programs. Suspending security and VPN. I tried two different internet connections. I went online to geek squad they did two tune ups. They can find nothing wrong. I ran a windows 7 version backup. It took 15 hours. I don't have that much data. My windows version is 10.0.26100 build 26100 Windows version 11 home. Computer model is Samsung 730QED. It has Intel core I7 processor. And solid state drive. I am not running any complex or large programs. Please can you help?

    Hello JerryHutcheson

    Welcome to the Microsoft Community.

There could be many reasons that make your laptop run slow. We would like to know when you first noticed the issue. If it started after a recent Windows update, you could try to revert back the update patch or uninstall the update to fix this problem.

Try to perform a Clean Boot to see if a background program is causing the issue. This will start Windows with a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. How to perform a clean boot in Windows - Microsoft Support

    1. Press Windows + R, type msconfig, and press Enter.
    2. Go to the Services tab, check Hide all Microsoft services, and then click Disable all.
    3. Go to the Startup tab and click Open Task Manager.
    4. Disable all startup items.
    5. Restart your computer.
Disclaimer: A “clean boot” starts Windows with a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. It helps to determine whether a background service is interfering with your game or program and to isolate the cause of a problem.
These steps of "clean boot" might look complicated at first glance. However, to avoid any trouble for you, please follow them in order and step-by step so that it will help you get back on track.
Now check if the issue persists. If it stops, you can narrow down which service or program is causing the issue by re-enabling them one by one and testing after each.

If the problem still persists after a clean boot, we recommend you Perform an In-place Upgrade: An in-place upgrade is a method of reinstalling Windows. The principle of an in-place upgrade is to upgrade the system from the old version to the latest version while retaining the original system and user data, overwriting only the system files, and restoring the normal use of the system. The detailed steps are as follows.

    1. Visit the official Microsoft website, Download Windows 11 Download the Media Creation Tool from the website.
    2. Use the installation tool to create a USB installation disk or ISO file.
    3. Insert the USB installation disk or mount the ISO file, and then run setup.exe.
    4. Select the "Upgrade this PC" option and click "Next".
    5. Make sure to select the "Keep personal files and apps" option and click "Install".
    6. The process may take some time, please wait patiently for it to complete.

Disclaimer: Let's try to perform an in-place upgrade, which will refresh your Windows files and operating system without deleting files or applications. But if there is important data on the computer, we still recommend backing it up in advance.

    Hello William

Thank you for your reply. And yes this did solve the problem. I had found a previous article see the link below.

    https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/all/performance-issues-with-samsung-galaxy-2/291c7842-633f-4325-9063-ad88c2b597a7

And that was one of the steps. This clean boot did the trick. Now I am in the process of locating the offending program. Thanks for your quick and professional reply. I do appreciate it.
