I am having an odd issue that has shown up on fresh imaged windows 10 machine.

I open file explorer, right click on a text file and select edit.

The file opens in a minimize state on the taskbar and will not maximize to edit.

All I can do is close the notepad document.

Thoughts???

    Dear AndyHojnacki_59

    Welcome to Microsoft Community.

According to what you have described, you have found that you can only minimize the display when using Notepad in the Windows 10 environment of your new computer, and you cannot maximize it to enter and edit it.

For this issue, it could be related to the settings and features, for which you can try to troubleshoot it by doing the following:

    1. Right-click on the taskbar and select “Properties”, enter the Properties window, select the “Taskbar” tab, see “automatically hide the taskbar” whether to check. If the check box is canceled; if not checked, you can first check the box, exit and then enter the check box to confirm whether the problem is solved.
    2. Right-click on the taskbar, select “Cascade Windows”. This will pop up all the programs currently running, try to reduce all the unwanted programs, leaving only the notepad program that can not be maximized to see if it can be maximized normally.
    3. Press Win+P to open Multi-Monitor Display Settings and select the relevant option from the list. You can also press Win+I to open System Settings, select “System”, then “Display”, and make relevant settings in the “Rearrange your monitors” option, such as scrolling down Click the “Multi-Monitor” drop-down menu to select the option, click “Advanced Display Settings”, and select the relevant settings in the “Select Monitor” and “Refresh Rate Click “Advanced Display Settings”, select the relevant options in the “Select Monitor” and “Refresh Rate” drop-down menus, close the system settings and reboot the device.
    4. Press Win+X to open the quick access menu, select “Task Manager”, find “Windows Explorer” in “Processes”, right-click and select “Restart”. If the problem persists, you can also right-click and select “End Task”, then manually reopen it by clicking its taskbar icon or typing “File Manager” in the Windows search bar and selecting the best match.
    5. If you are using a Windows touchscreen device, touch the “Notification Center icon” at the bottom right corner of the screen and press the “Tablet Mode” widget to disable this feature. You can also press Win+I to open System Settings, select “System”, click “Tablet”, and make adjustments in the relevant settings, such as clicking “When I log in” and Click “When I log in” and “When I use this device as a tablet” drop-down menu to select options, click “Change other tablet settings”, switch the relevant options according to the needs, and finally close the system settings and restart the device.
    6. On the Windows 10 desktop, right-click the Start button in the lower-left corner, select “Run”, enter the command “regedit” to open the Registry Editor window, locate “Computer \ HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Notepad” registry entry right-click on the ‘Notepad’ registry entry to select ”Delete ”, after that right-click on the blank location of the taskbar, select “Task Manager”, right-click on “Windows Explorer” in the open window, select ” Restart”.
