How can I force a window offscreen, ABOVE the screen

Before the latest windows update that occured around the shift between january and february I was able to move windows partially off-screen on the top. Since the update I haven't been able to do so. Snap funktion is turned off. Have also turned it on and then turned off all the selections, still same problem.

Windows keep getting forced down. Using the move function with the arrows doesn't work, it snaps back down as soon as I "let got" of the window. I also can't install any external software on the computer due to work reasons.

Thank you for your response. Once you use your work or school account, there will be limitations on what you can change in the settings. The snap feature is not affected, however, the steps that I have might require admin access. I'll share it to you regardless.

Try changing the setting for this function via Control Panel.

    1. Open Control Panel in Large icons view, click the “Ease of Access Center” icon.
    2. Click the “Make the keyboard easier to use” option.
    3. Scroll down to the “Make it easier to manage windows” section, uncheck the “Prevent windows from being automatically arranged when moved to the edged of the screen” option.
    4. Click Apply and then OK.

If this won't work, we can try to disable it through registry. Disclaimer: Editing registry requires you to create a System Restore point as this would tamper system files.

Turn off Snap windows in Windows 11 via Registry Editor

    1. Open Registry Editor and browse to: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop, then double-click the string WindowArrangementActive on the right pane.
    2. To turn off the Snap windows feature, change its value data from 1 to 0. Click OK.
    3. Close Registry Editor. A reboot is required for this change to take effect.

I hope the above steps helped you. In case of additional questions, reach out back to me, and I will be happy to help and try my best to resolve your issue.

    Thank you,

    Renzo M.

I was able to change these settings myself before the update, and I'm able to change basic settings within windows. I simply don't have admin rights to install things or make some changes requiring admin rights, but changes to UI within my windows I can change fine.

I'm not using an external monitor for my work computer, only the built-in one.

What is the setting that's causing this? If it's something managed by back end support it would be helpful to know what they need to do in more concrete terms.

Hello! My name is Renzo, and I’m an independent advisor and a long-time Microsoft user.

I’m sorry that you are experiencing this issue, and I will try my best to assist you with this so that you find a satisfactory solution.

You mentioned that this happened after an update and due to work reason, perhaps you are using a company computer with a work account? These settings are managed by your company's back end supports. Do you have external monitor on both cases? (Working and not working).

We'll wait for your reply. Thank you.

    Renzo M.
