Windows does not boot - Dell logo appears and the system turns off, it keeps happening in a loop

Hello Team,

I had installed Ubuntu (dual boot) in D drive of my system along with windows 11 long back. I wanted to remove Ubuntu from dual boot and deallocate the space allocated to it.

As mentioned on internet, I have followed this process to remove ubuntu:
Delete Partitions allocated to Ubuntu using windows disk management and extend the D drive to occupy the freed partition space.

Unfortunately, when I restart the system Dell logo appears, keyboard backlight turns on, the system cooling fan turns on and suddenly everything turns off - screen, keyboard and that cooling fan. Again, system starts on it's own the dell logo appears and again it turns off. It keeps happening in a loop.

I am able to enter one-time boot menu and BIOS setup. After trying various methods to restore windows boot loader, system repair, system restore, I finally decided to reset the system as nothing was working.

I tried system reset from Dell Support Assist Recovery, the first 2 steps have been completed successfully, however the third step in the process required system restart. When I try to do that, the above mentioned issue occurs.

I am right now clueless, what can fix this issue and why this is happening :(
Kindly, please help me resolve this.

Thanks.

I have done clean install of windows and now everything seems to work fine except for one thing.

When I change the storage controller mode in BIOS from AHCI to RAID.... I get this error on restarting the system - INACCESIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE.

I remember it to be in RAID mode previously. However, it just works fine now in AHCI mode.

Any idea why this behaviour is occuring and how do I fix it?

    Thanks.

A Dell device will have the licence embedded in the bios, so no problem there. This will be read by the windows installation process and activate automatically. It also ensue the correct edition, in your case Single Language.

You can install Windows 11 straight off and not go the Windows 10 > Windows 11 route.

The drivers need to come from Dell where possible and they should have them available on their website. Often a manufacturer will have a folder on C:\ called Drivers with all their drivers for the device but these may be dated now.

If you have Windows 11 boot media already you should boot from it and see if the option to Repair fixes the current problem. So once you have booted from the USB select Language > Repair and then Start-up repair.

If that doesn't work the boot from the USB and select Language > Install now > Customised install. At customised install select each windows partition and Delete until there is only unallocated space.

Select Next to install on unallocated space. Follow the onscreen instructions.

If you want to check the C:\ drive for a drivers folder you can do that via the windows boot USB. After booting from it select the Repair option and Command prompt. At the prompt enter notepad.exe [press return] that opens notepad. Select File > Open and change the file type to All and use it like a mini File Explorer.

Hope that covers it all but if not post back any questions.

    Hi neilpzz,

    Thanks for your reply.

When I meant repair, I have done factory reset from Dell Support Assist software. I have not used windows bootable USB for this purpose.

I do have windows bootable USB and the data backed up.

I'm using Dell Inspiron 3501 8GB Ram, 256GB SSD. Now the latest version of windows 11 is not efficient on my device. However, I had windows 11 single language edition.. I got this in windows updates from windows 10.

Now if I have to do a clean install, should I install windows 10 and then check for windows updates to upgrade to windows 11 or can we directly install windows 11 single language edition. Which way is most preferable/reliable?

Next, if I do windows re-installation, I was wondering installing all the drivers would be hectic or I could miss something. Instead, I was thinking is there any other way to get this fixed.

Please share your thoughts on this.

    Thanks

Do you have a windows boot installation USB. Download Windows 11 or can you create one on another windows PC. Is that what you used for a repair of windows?

Do you have a backup of your personal files. If you do it may be easiest to clean install windows using the boot USB.
