This works IF you are trying to change a default font, but in programs like Photoshop, you are working with 100+ fonts when designing. So HOW do you get it so you can utilize all those fonts?
My installed font will not show up in any of my programs.
I've seen a bunch of threads on this topic already with a number of potential solutions. None have worked for me so far. It's a font with three variations and I can't seem to use all of them. On Word only one of them is usable, and that's the one that's in my C:\Windows\Fonts folder, on Photoshop I can use 2 of the variations and all three appear properly under Fonts in the Settings app. If I try reinstalling any of the fonts (clicking on them and installing them, copy-and-pasting them into C:\Windows\Fonts, uninstalling and reinstalling etc.) it always indicates that it's already been installed but I still cannot use them. Two of them seem to replace eachother as well. How do I fix these fonts?

2024-12-13T08:17:15+00:00 Hi, Corcheș Civan.
Thank you for posting in the Microsoft Community.
From your description, I understand that the font you installed cannot be displayed in any of your applications, and you have tried to reinstall it but it has not been installed, and the other two fonts seem to replace each other. I understand your confusion about this problem.
First, make sure that the font file format you installed is correct. Usually the font file will have a .ttf or .otf extension. If the font format is incorrect, it may cause the program to be unable to recognize or load the variant.
- Make sure that the font is downloaded through normal channels (such as the official website).
- Check whether each font variant (bold, italic, etc.) is installed correctly. Sometimes, different variants of the font may have different file names or file types.
When installing, make sure to install the font with administrator privileges. Right-click the font file and select Run as administrator.
- Press the shortcut keys Win + R to open Run and enter regedit to open the registry editor.
- Locate this path: Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Fonts.
- Find Microsoft YaHei & Microsoft YaHei UI (TrueType) on the right. This is the system default font. Just change the default font name to the font name you need.
Change the following msyh.ttc to the font you want (right-click the font you want to change, properties, copy the name above).
- Find Microsoft YaHei Bold & Microsoft YaHei UI Bold (TrueType), and change the following msyhbd.ttc to the font you want.
Disclaimer: Before you modify the registry, please back up the relevant data.
Windows caches installed fonts in the background to improve performance. If there is a problem with the font cache, some fonts or their variants may not be displayed. You can try to clear the font cache and restart the system:
- Open Task Manager (press Ctrl + Shift + Esc).
- Find the Windows Font Cache service, right-click it and select End Task.
- Then open File Explorer and go to the C:\Windows\ServiceProfiles\LocalService\AppData\Local folder.
- Delete the FontCache folder (if you can't find it, you can skip this step).
- Restart your computer and Windows will rebuild the font cache.
Some programs, such as Photoshop and Word, may require you to manually refresh the font list or restart the program to correctly recognize newly installed fonts.
- Open Photoshop and click Edit > Preferences > Performance.
- Make sure the Use Adobe Fonts option is enabled.
- Restart Photoshop.
Word: If fonts are not visible in Word, try the following:
- Open Word and click File > Options > Advanced.
- Scroll to the Show Document Content section and make sure the Font Smoothing option is enabled.
- Close and restart Word.
To set the default font:
1.Open Settings > Personalization > Fonts.
2.Make sure the fonts are displayed correctly in your system and try to select the font you want as the default font.
Update Windows:
Make sure your system and drivers are updated, especially display-related drivers (such as graphics card drivers) to ensure there are no compatibility issues.
We look forward to hearing from you!
Best Regards.
