How do i get parental controls off of my account? i have been in contact with microsoft support twice, first time they said i left the family without the controls being lifted and that was the issue. i was then put back in the family and told to wait 2 days and then to follow certain steps to take the controls off. the steps did not work, i got in contact with support again and they again couldent do anything. they did remove me from the family witch i was told was the issue in the first place. I called geek squad and they said the issue might be that my age is set as a minor, so i changed that and nothing happened. The family support page keeps taking me in circles, never getting anywhere expect right where i started. Im using a dell latitude with windows 11. sometimes when i go to ask permission to use a website it brings me to a error page and sometimes nothing at all happens. I have spent hours on this already and nothing has worked.

Hi Welcome to Microsoft community. The issue likely involves lingering settings in Microsoft Family Safety, account age misconfiguration, or residual services. Here's a comprehensive solution:

    1. Verify Family Group Status
    • Confirm Family Group Removal:
Visit family.microsoft.com and check if your account is still listed under any family group. If so, use the three dots next to your name to select Leave family group and confirm removal.
    1. Disable Parental Control Services and Features
    • Stop Parental Controls Service:
Press Win + R, type services.msc, and locate Parental Controls (or WpcMonSvc). Right-click it, select Stop, then set Startup type to Disabled to prevent reactivation.
    • Remove Device Admin Permissions:
Go to Settings > Accounts > Family & other users > Manage family settings online. Under Device admin apps, locate Microsoft Family Safety and select Deactivate.
    1. Uninstall Microsoft Family Safety App and Clear Residual Files
    • Uninstall the App:
Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps, search for Microsoft Family Safety, and select Uninstall. Use a tool like Revo Uninstaller to delete leftover registry entries.
    • Delete Residual Folders:
Navigate to C:\Program Files\WindowsApps and delete any folders related to Microsoft.FamilySafety. You may need to take ownership of these folders via Properties > Security > Advanced.
    1. Reset Account Permissions and Local Policies
    • Create a New Local Admin Account:
Go to Settings > Accounts > Family & other users > Add account, create a local admin account, and transfer your data. Log in to this account and delete your old profile.
    • Modify UAC and Registry Settings:
      • Disable User Account Control (UAC) temporarily:
Press Win + R, type regedit and navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System. Set EnableLUA to 0.
      • Reset permissions for critical folders like System32 using icacls commands in Command Prompt (Admin).
      • Disclaimer: Generally, modifying registry subkeys or work group is intended for advanced users, administrators, and IT Professionals. It can help fix some problems, however, serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you follow these steps carefully. For further protection, back up the registry before you modify it. Then, you can restore the registry if a problem occurs. For more information about how to back up and restore the registry, click How to back up and restore the registry in Windows - Microsoft Support to view the article.
    1. Advanced Troubleshooting
    • Reinstall Windows 11:
If all else fails, perform a clean install using a bootable USB. This will remove all residual parental control configurations. Use the Media Creation Tool to create installation media.
    • Please ensure that you backup any important data, including Documents, Pictures, Videos, and more.
    • Check Firewall/Network Restrictions:
Temporarily disable Windows Defender Firewall and real-time protection (Settings > Privacy & Security > Windows Security) to rule out network-level blocks.
    • Disclaimer: Temporarily turn off real-time Microsoft Defender antivirus protection in Windows Security. However, keep in mind that if you do so, your device may be vulnerable to threats. So please turn it on immediately once issue fixed.

Why Previous Steps May Have Failed

    • Age Sync Delays: Microsoft’s servers might not have updated your age despite changes. Wait 48 hours and recheck.
    • Residual Services: The WpcMonSvc service might still run in the background even after leaving the family group.
    • Corrupted Permissions: Your user profile or system files could be damaged, necessitating a clean install.
