NVIDIA GPU Not Being Used After Windows 11 Update (10th Oct 2024)

I’m having an issue where my laptop with Windows 11 is using the Intel integrated graphics instead of the NVIDIA GPU. Even though the NVIDIA driver shows up in Device Manager, it’s not being used for apps like Premiere Pro, CapCut, or other software where it should be.

I don’t think this is an NVIDIA problem because everything was working fine until I installed a recent Windows update (10th Oct 2024). After the update and restarting the laptop, this issue started, and now I can’t use any of my editing software properly.

Here’s what I’ve already tried to fix it:

  1. Uninstalled and reinstalled the latest NVIDIA driver.
  2. Tested different previous driver versions.
  3. Did a full Windows reset to start fresh.

I also ran a benchmark test, and it did use the NVIDIA GPU, so I know the GPU itself is fine.

Laptop Specs:

  • Model: HP VICTUS 16-R0002NIA
  • Processor: Intel Core i7-13700H (13th Gen)
  • Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 (8GB GDDR6)
  • RAM: 16GB DDR5
  • Storage: 1TB PCIe Gen4 NVMe

I’d appreciate any help or solutions you could provide.

Thanks.

    Hey Guys!

I had the same problem: the dedicated graphics card, in my case, a GTX1650 MaxQ, was at 0% Utilization.

What worked for me was to uninstall all Nvidia apps and the display adapter, reboot, and reinstall the NVIDIA Control Panel. I did not install the Experience App or a dedicated Nvidia driver, but it seems to work anyway.

    Further settings:

    • in the NVIDIA control panel, choose: high-performance NVIDIA processor under "Manage 3D settings", and also for the PhysX processor the graphics card.
    • under System/Display/Graphics/Advanced Graphics Settings, I also chose the graphics card
    • I disabled the fast start-up in the Windows power options menu (choose what the power buttons do)
    • in the BIOS, I selected the dedicated graphics card

I hope this helps anyone who has the same problem.

Same problem for me. After I installed the latest Windows-Update today, my GPU isn't being used anymore. My integrated GPU of my Ryzen 7 4800H isn't even showing up in Task anymore.

Currently using an Asus TUF Gaming A15 FA506IC:

    • AMD Ryzen 7 4800H with integrated graphics
    • RTX 3050 (4GB)
    • 24GB of DDR4 RAM
    • 512GB of Samsung SSD Storage

Sadly I also haven't found any fixes...

Same problem here with new Laptop ASUS ProArt PX13. The Geforce 4060 card is recognized in the device manager, but not used by the system. Not recognized my Microsoft Store for instance and cannot use MuseTree and related software. Hope a fix will be found shortly.
