copy/paste of photo

Hello.
On my old PC with Windows 10 (office 365) I have been used to being able to click on, e.g., a photo, chose 'copy' (either from the drop-down meny, or simply ctrl+C. Then I went to the required folder, clicked CTRL+V.

I cannot do this any longer! If I see a jpg file I like. I can stil click either ctrl+C or click on 'Copy image' on the dropdown menu. In both cases a blue box appears which says 'image has been copied''.
Then I go to one of my folders, and 1) try ctrl.+V but nothing happens. or 2) roll out the dropdown meny and look for something like 'paste'. But there isn't. I click on the 'more options' (I use a danish version, so I am not 100% certain of the correct English terms), but there is no other paste-options.
What I have just described concerns imaged from the internet.
If I do exactly the same with an image already on my pc/already in a folder of mine, I can do this. However, it is new images I am interested in.
How can I copy/paste images from the internet?
Under Windows specifications it says: Windows 11 Home, Version 23H2. Operativsystem build 22631.4751.

Hi Welcome to Microsoft community. It sounds like you're experiencing a change in behavior with how Windows 11 handles copying and pasting images from the internet compared to Windows 10. Let's clarify the process for Windows 11 and ensure you can achieve what you're looking for. When you copy an image from the internet in Windows 11, what you're actually copying is the image data itself, not the file. Here’s how you can handle this:

    1. Copying the Image Data:
      • Right-click on the image you want to copy from the internet.
      • Select Copy image or use the shortcut Ctrl+C. This copies the image content to the clipboard.
    2. Pasting the Image Data:
      • You cannot directly paste this copied image data into a folder as a file using Ctrl+V because it's not a file but the image data itself. This is why nothing happens when you try to paste into a folder.
    3. Saving the Image as a File:
      • To save the image as a file on your PC:
        • Right-click on the image on the webpage.
        • Select Save image as... from the context menu.
        • Choose the location in your file explorer where you want to save the image.
        • Click Save.

Alternative Method Using Image Editing Software:If you want to paste the image directly into a folder, you can use an image editing or viewing application:

    1. Open an Image Editing Application:
      • Open any image editing software like Paint or even Microsoft Word.
    2. Paste the Image:
      • Once the application is open, press Ctrl+V or right-click and choose Paste. The image will paste into the document.
    3. Save the Image:
      • Save the image from within the application by selecting File > Save As and choosing a location on your PC. Name the file and choose the appropriate format (like .jpg, .png, etc.).

When you copy an image file that's already on your PC, you're copying the file reference, which can then be pasted into another folder. This is different from copying image data from the internet.Since you've mentioned that you're using Windows 11 Home, Version 23H2, this behavior is consistent with how Windows 11 operates. If you were expecting the same functionality as Windows 10, it’s important to note that Microsoft has changed some user interface elements and functionalities in Windows 11.--------

    • In Windows 11, the right-click context menu has been streamlined. If you're looking for more options, clicking Show more options or More options (in Danish, it might be something like "Vis flere muligheder") will give you the classic context menu, but for pasting files directly, the functionality remains the same.

If you need to perform this action frequently, consider using browser extensions or software designed to download images from the web directly to your folders, like Image Downloader for Chrome or similar tools for other browsers. If this explanation doesn't solve your issue or if you're looking for further assistance, please let me know.Best regardsDerrick Qian | Microsoft Community Support Specialist

    Hello Derric,

Thank you (and sorry for the late reply - an influenza made me slow to read email).

I will read your good advice and learn how 11 works.

    Thank you for answering me.

    Very best,

    Hanne
