Copy the Accessories folder from another computer onto a USB drive.

On the USB drive, right-click on the name of the folder you just copied, choose to rename and rename it to Wordpad.

Connect the USB drive to the new computer.

Cut the Wordpad folder from the USB drive and paste it into your Documents folder.

When you open a document and need to choose a program for it, navigate to your Documents folder, then to Wordpad and choose wordpad.exe. #make sure to click "always" in the "choose a program" windows so you don't have to do this every time

In any other Windows than W11 24H2, go to C:\Program Files\Windows NT\Accessories. Copy the whole folder (it's very small, three files) and paste it into the new machine in a location NOT in the Windows folder. That is because some system updates will re-write the system folders and, therefore, remove Wordpad again. I have a folder under my profile named Oldies, where I keep all these old versions. You can rename the Accessories folder, for example to Wordpad

Now try to open a document, right click and choose an app on this computer, navigate to wherever you saved that folder and inside the folder there will be Wordpad.exe.

HI. Thank you for the reply and willingness to help. After posting this message I realized that I have another laptop with 11 that hasn't been poisoned by the new h1n1 windows ewwww.

I have read that it is possible to transplant wordpad from that unit, but I am a bit of a novice at this.

Good day, thanks for your question. In my opinion is that WordPad is no longer aligned or seen with Microsoft’s focus on AI, cloud based services and productivity tools. The shift towards promoting applications like Microsoft Word (through Office 365) and cloud based solution like OneDrive for document collaboration which made WordPad became less relevant from their point of view.

For this, I would still suggest for you to send a feedback via the Feedback Hub app by pressing Windows key + F and this should launch the app and hopefully something similar will be considered and will be released in the future.

At the time being, you can check out the link below to download and install it, which also includes the step by step guide.

    Hello,

In Windows 11, version 24H2, WordPad was removed.

I have a Google Drive folder that has the original WordPad files from Windows 11, version 23H2.

Follow the README.txt in the folder to know where to put the contents of the folder.

Let me know how this goes.
