Random printing of rubbish eg. localhost, Keep-Alive, Windows Internet Print Provider, etc

Anonymous

is starting to occur regularly - why? I have finally got rid of the scannerstatus printing issue where loads of paper was being wasted. Now I'm back to the same thing but a different page is being printed. I'm so sick of this and understand it is a windows issue? From an upgrade??

Some of the print is on top of other print, some isn't but get several pages at a time, all day long.

More garbage on one of the pages reads: x3 smiley faces then G attributes-charset, clubs symbol, then utf-8Httributes-natural-language, clubs sign again, en-nzEprinter-uri, down arrow, then ipp

what is this all about??

    This is on Windows 10.

I ran all existing windows updates as of 01/20/2025. After I installed Optional Quality Update KB:5050081 and rebooting random pages started printing when waking up a computer. Usually one page with the following text and then a blank page.

Printed on the first page was :

    Connection: Keep-Alive

    Content Type: application/ipp

    User-Agent: Windows Internet Print Provider

    Content-Lenght: 571

    Host:localhost

Then some random Smiley faces and other symbols.

A couple of users went home and the next morning their paper cassette (Kyocera Ecosys P2040dw) was empty and the top output was full of the pages as mentioned above. Changing drivers did not matter and it still happens.

    Fix

Booted from a Windows install USB, Choose Troubleshooting and uninstalled the last Quality Update.

This removed KB:5050081 and after rebooting the issue went away.

Hi. Thanks for your response. My printer is a Kyocera ECOSYS P2040w and is connected via USB. It's not on a network and from what I've seen online, it's another MS Windows issue.

This is the type of blurb it's spitting out -

    Connection: Keep-Aive

    Content-Type: application/ipp

    User-Agent: Windows Internet Print Provider

    Content-Length: 653

    Host: localhost

then it gives smiley faces and then ..... attributes-charset utf-8Httributes-natural-language en-nzEprinter-uri ipp

It happens as soon as I wake my laptop up, and away it prints. I don't even have to send a print job to printer, it just prints randomly.

    Thanks

    Dear Tania Fox

Thank you for posting in the Microsoft community.

First of all, I would like to ask you what brand and model of printer you are using. Using a USB local connection or using a network connection.

The problem you are experiencing is usually related to the printer driver or the configuration of the printer.

Printing garbled or unexpected content is usually caused by one of several reasons:

    1. Printer driver issues: If a printer driver is newly installed or upgraded, this may cause compatibility issues. This can happen after a Windows update where some of the drivers may not have been properly updated.

You can go to the printer manufacturer's website and update the full printer driver.

    1. Print Queue Problems: Sometimes there are problems with the jobs in the print queue, resulting in unexpected printouts.

You can try emptying the print queue to see if that solves the problem.

    1. Format issues: If the file format being printed is not supported by the printer, the printer may try to interpret the file and output garbled code. For example, when printing HTML pages or other web content, it is possible to output technical information instead of the expected content.
    2. network connection problems: If your printer is a network printer, unstable network connections may result in erroneous commands being sent to the printer.
    3. Document source: If you are printing a document from a particular application or website, the application may be generating print data in error, resulting in garbage output.

    Solution steps:

    1. Check and update the printer driver: Make sure the printer driver is the latest version. You can visit the printer manufacturer's official website to download the latest version.
    2. Empty the print queue: In the taskbar, right-click the printer icon, select “View Printing Documents”, and then empty the queue.
    3. Try a different print document: Print from another application or file format to verify that the problem still exists.
    4. Restart the printer and computer: Sometimes a simple restart can resolve some software conflicts.
    5. Check network settings: If you are using a network printer, make sure the network connection is working and try reconnecting the printer.

If the above steps don't solve the problem, consider contacting the printer manufacturer's customer service support with detailed information and they can provide a more specific solution. Hopefully, these suggestions will help you resolve your troubles! Feel free to let me know if you need more help.

    Dear Tania Fox

Thank you for posting in the Microsoft community.

If you confirm that the printer is not connected to a LAN.

This issue is usually due to wrong driver version and USB connection cable issue.

It is recommended that you replace the USB cable with another one (if you have a spare one).

Uninstall the USB printer driver and install the latest version of the driver.
