What to do after windows 10 reset only showing a black screen?

Hi, I recently decided to reset windows completely, so I completely removed all my files I had. I have a 2 TB SSD, so I left my PC on overnight as I started at around 10 PM. When I got home from school around 2 PM the next day, I found my PC in sleep mode. I then proceeded to start my PC, excited to use it fresh, and it flashed the login screen for a few milliseconds then it turned black.

I tried restarting my PC around 5 times one after another with to no avail. I also pressed Win + Ctrl + Shift + B, also with no help. My dad has used the monitor with his laptop and it worked great. I have also pressed the flash BIOS button without anything showing on the monitor.

I am unsure what to do now and any help would be great!

Thanks, Brad

Hi Brad! I'm John, a fellow Microsoft user like you.

I understand your frustration. I'm here to help you with this. If you haven't tried, please try performing a hard shutdown and monitor if issue will persist:

    > Press and hold the power button for about 10 seconds, or until the screen turns off, release the power button and wait for about 30 seconds.

    > After 30 seconds, press the power button again to turn on your device.

If the screen is still black, I have a couple of questions to narrow things down:

When you turn your PC on, do you hear the Windows startup sound or notice any blinking lights on your PC?

Can you access the advanced startup menu by turning your PC off and on three times in a row?

    1. Hold down the power button for 10 seconds to power off your device.
    2. Press the power button to turn on your device. As soon as you see the initial indication of Windows starting (such as the manufacturer's logo appearing during a restart), hold down the power button for 10 seconds to power off your device.
    3. Repeat this process twice.
    4. On the third start, Windows will boot into the Recovery Environment.
    5. Select "Advanced options."
    6. On the "Choose an option" screen, choose "Troubleshoot" and select "Advanced options".
    7. Select "Startup Repair" and then "Restart".

Let me know how it goes.

Thank you for letting me know.

Since your PC isn’t even showing the MSI logo on startup, it seems like it’s not getting past the initial boot process. The fact that your RGB lights and Ethernet port are active is a good sign that the system is receiving power, but we need to figure out why there’s no display output.

    Let’s try a few things:

    > Check if your GPU is the issue > If you have a dedicated graphics card, try plugging your monitor directly into the motherboard’s HDMI/DisplayPort instead. If the display works there, your GPU may not be initializing properly.

    > Clear the CMOS (reset BIOS settings) > Some settings might be interfering with the display.

    Try this:

    > Turn off your PC and unplug the power cable.

    > Locate the CMOS battery on your motherboard (a small coin-shaped battery).

    > Remove it for about 5 minutes, then put it back in and turn on your PC.

If none of this helps, do you hear any beeping sounds when turning on your PC? Some motherboards have diagnostic beeps that can indicate what’s wrong.

Also, if you have a secondary monitor or TV, could you try connecting your PC to that just to rule out display issues?

Let me know how it goes.

    Hi,

I only have Bluetooth speakers, so I can’t hear windows startup noise since Bluetooth only connects after I sign in to windows.

My monitor displays nothing, not even the MSI logo that normally appears, I tried switching to a cable I know works and same thing. When I try to boot into recovery environment, I can’t tell if anything is happening because nothing will show on the monitor

I do however see the the lights for the Ethernet connection, which are the only lights I normally see from the side panel. I do see my RGB fans, water cooler, and RAM sticks light up just like normal.

    Thanks!
