My Acer ES1_731 laptop key board has suddenly stopped working. It worked fine yesterday, no issues, today, nothing. Multi restarts, did nothing. Hooked up a USB spare keyboard and that works. I have built my own PC's, but not for a while. Getting a tad older. Mouse works. Any solid ideas, suggestions, help is greatly appreciated. Thanks, have a great day...Claude

    Hi Emily

Thank you for your help so far. To answer your specific questions, the entire laptop keyboard was unresponsive, no keys were working, nothing registered when keys were pressed.

Now having said all that, I am totally floored this morning, because after doing a full PC scan,, checking on driver status and updating a couple of drivers I never had a clue has anything to do with the keyboard, then doing a restart, the laptop keyboard is strangely fully functional. After all the years of my fooling around with PC's, it never ceases to amaze me, that when you're trying to fix one thing, other things get fixed without even trying. I'm in my 80's, am a federally licensed ham radio operator, was employed as a quality engineer, and still get surprised. Problem solved by itself??? thank you again for your quick response to my cry for help. You are a wonderful lady that is a credit to your community, keep up the great work regimen....Claude, a tired old Canadian.

Claude, I appreciate your response, but it doesn’t provide the answer I was looking for.

    For example:

    • Is the entire laptop keyboard unresponsive?
    • Are only certain keys not working?
    • Do key presses register incorrectly?

    Hello,

If the external keyboard works, the issue is likely hardware.

Tell me a bit more though, what is the symptom? Not working at all, or some keys are not working, or some Ravi ekeys are typing wrong letters/signs?

Hi The keyboard worked fine Monday. Turned the laptop on Tuesday morning and the keyboard did not work. Spent the day trying to figure it out. No such luck. Same thing today but trouble shooting came up with “text service framework” not installed. Searches came up with nothing that worked. I’m temporarily using a USB Logitech keyboard on the laptop. There was a post same as mine, same model laptop, the community person thought the keyboard ribbon had come loose, but I’m skeptical because this is a laptop, not a desktop. Thanks for your help so far, anything further is a bonus. Have a super day, Claude
