I get it, and yes, it would be the opposite of what we intend it to be. By the way, the photo of the motherboard might be inverted, so inspection is recommended. Sometimes, attaching it to the intended side despite the other half of the port being empty, can also work.
Help with Sound card
Hello I'm wondering if someone can advise me. I'm not that good with PCs.
I have just bought a reconditioned Dell OptiPlex 5050 running windows 11.
I used to have a dell OptiPlex which was windows 7. I did put the sound card in myself and its always been great. I have now got the recon one. My problem is that I used to use my creative labs SoundBlaster sound card in the old dell. I am wondering can i fit it in to the Dell 5050
Can any one advise.
Any advice gratefully received
Thankyou
Keith

2025-03-30T09:57:19+00:00 Hi Sumit,
Here is a JPEG of my Sound card. This what I used to have in the other desk top. I haven't opened The new one yet but will try later.
I did find this attachment on the web which i think is my Windows 11 desk top now.
In the Jpeg it does show 1 and 2 expansion slots. The only problem I can see is that it will be back to front...
What do you think?
Thanks Keith

2025-03-29T17:13:55+00:00 Hello there
Thanks for your reply.
My new or refurbished Dell is Optimax 5050. It has some type of sound card inside it as i get quite a good sound out.
Its just that I bought the Sound Blaster SB1570 a few years ago and the sound from it is great. I just thought id try and see if i can install it so i get that really good sound back.
In the old Dell Optimax I was running windows 7.
Sadly stuff i was doing with internet just wasn't working hence why I got windows 11.
The sound Blaster was so easy to install in the old Dell and I found it really easy.
Does Windows 11 have a slot for a Sound card
Thanks Keith

2025-03-29T16:27:55+00:00 Did your new computer come with "integrated" sound circuits on the motherboard, and exterior sockets (line-in, microphone in, speaker out)? With your right-side button on your mouse, click on the Windows "logo" (bottom left of screen) and choose "Device Manager". Expand the branch of the "tree" to show what sound-device is installed.
Is there something special about your old sound-card (5-channel or 7-channel surround-sound output, or optical output) that you want to continue to use?
What is the model-number of your sound-card? Creative makes many different sound-cards, with varying capabilities and varying connectors (ISA, PCI, PCI-E).

2025-03-29T16:06:59+00:00 Hi Keith,
I'm Sumit, here to answer your query at the Microsoft Community.
Apologies for any inconvenience you are experiencing. I am happy to help you today.
Seeing the size of the Optiplex case, I think it is possible to add a PCI-E card to your device. Are you technically proficient to check if there are free PCIE slot, by opening the computer case?
I look forward to your response and am eager to collaborate until we find a solution.
