Why is it that, whenever I join a game, the quality of my audio gets worse? I've got no idea why it's happening.

So, recently, I got a new laptop. I didn't mess around with the sound or microphone settings or anything. At the same time, I also got some new wireless headphones to use alongside it. The quality is great whenever I'm on call with my friends, and I have zero complaints. But, as soon as I join Roblox specifically, the quality takes a nosedive, and everything sounds muffled and, honestly, horrible. I looked around for some help online, but I don't really know what the issue is, so I can't accurately look for help on the topic. Any kind of help would be appreciated, thanks.

    Hello James,

This is Riaz H, an independent advisor.

I can understand your concern and sorry for the inconvenience.

It sounds like your Bluetooth headphones are switching to hands-free mode whenever you join Roblox, which causes the audio quality to drop. This is a common issue with Bluetooth headsets on Windows—when the microphone gets activated, Windows automatically switches from high-quality stereo mode to a low-quality hands-free mode meant for calls. That’s probably why everything sounds fine in voice chats but turns muffled when you start playing Roblox.

Here are some ways to Fix It:

    1. Manually Set Your Headphones to Stereo Mode

Right-click the speaker icon on your taskbar and select Sounds.

    Go to the Playback tab.

You should see two options for your headset:

One is labeled Stereo (this is the high-quality version).

One is labeled Hands-Free (this is the lower-quality version used for calls).

Select the Stereo option and click Set as Default.

Click OK, then restart Roblox and see if it fixes the issue.

    1. Disable the Hands-Free Telephony Feature

Open Bluetooth & devices settings (Win + I, then go to Bluetooth & devices).

Click on your headphones and select Properties.

Look for the Audio section and turn off Hands-Free Telephony.

This stops Windows from switching to the low-quality mode when the mic is in use.

    1. Use a Different Microphone

Since the issue happens when Roblox activates your headset’s mic, switching to a different microphone (like the one built into your laptop) can prevent this from happening.

Open Settings > Sound > Input.

Select your laptop’s microphone instead of your headset’s mic.

Try these steps and let me know if it helps! Hope you get your audio back to normal. Thanks.
