As of today, is it safe to install Windows 11 24h2?

I installed the windows 11 24h2 last time (around 1 month ago) and it caused my computer to have VERY slow and laggy startup, occasional blue screens and everything was a mess, until it ended up destroying my RAM.

I had to replace it, do a reformat, and now that my PC is back to normal. Now, it again shows the 24h2 update available. I'm actually afraid to do it again only to end up having my PC having issues again. I wanted to know if all issues are fixed and the update is safe to install?

Thank you!

That all sounds good, but as of this moment, Win11 will not install ANY updates until I install the scary 24H2.

So.......MS is putting my systems at risk by essentially holding me hostage. It has downloaded the updates WITHOUT my permission (even though I have manual updates enabled!) and has halted all other updates until I allow that one to install.

That's a VERY poor way to engender a sense of customer care.

I wish I could remove the downloads "easily", but the only way I have found is insanely convoluted.

If you create an update that bricks and then you hold us hostage to install it, that's very poor.

I'm holding off for a while..........but since they have already been downloaded, what good does it do me if there is a new build that fixes the known issues?

Like I said: I am now a hostage.

It corners us to risk downloading it again SMH

I still am not Installing the latest version since the last time I did caused a lot of stress and I don't want to go through it again. Is there an announcement already if a newer update will be available?

    Dear MercyGun,

Thank you for sharing your experience with me.

I understand your concern regarding the Windows 11 24H2 update, especially after previously encountering issues like slow performance, blue screens, and data corruption. These types of issues can certainly make you hesitant to try the update again.

While I can’t provide a guarantee that every update will work perfectly for every user due to the variety of hardware configurations and system specifications, I can suggest some important steps to minimize risk and help you decide whether to proceed with the update.

Steps to Ensure a Safe Update Process:

Backup Important Data: Before performing any update, it’s always a good practice to back up your critical files to an external hard drive or cloud storage. This ensures that in the event of any issues, your data will be safe.

Create a System Restore Point: Creating a system restore point is a precautionary step that allows you to roll back to a previous system state if anything goes wrong after the update. This can save you from needing to do a complete system restore or reformatting your device. You can create a restore point by:

Going to Control Panel > System > System Protection.

Clicking Create to make a new restore point before updating.

Update Compatibility Check: Before installing the 24H2 update, you may want to check for any known compatibility issues with your specific hardware. You can do this by visiting the Windows 11 Health Dashboard to see if there are any warnings or known issues specific to your device model.

Install the Update: Once you've backed up your data and created a restore point, you can proceed with the update. If the update is stable and compatible with your system, it should install without issues. However, if you experience any problems, you can roll back to your previous restore point (or within 10 days, you can use the rollback option to return to your previous version).

Monitor Performance After the Update: After the update is installed, keep an eye on your system’s performance. If you experience lag, blue screens, or other issues, it might be helpful to check for any updated drivers for your hardware, as outdated drivers can sometimes cause these issues after an OS update.

If you are still unsure or want to wait for additional stability feedback from other users, you can always choose to delay the update for now until any known issues are addressed.

If you have any further questions or run into any problems, feel free to reply here anytime. I'm happy to assist you further.

    Best Regards,

You can use a program called takecontroll it is safe and works. I will lock your pc from updating but yet receive all the necessary updates. Just select the version you want and turn it on. Then you can turn on automatic updates with a piece of mind that 24h2 wont install. I have mine locked on 23h2 I would say by August 24h2 will be safe. Just a gamer trying to help...

PS been using the program since win 10
