It's been going for over 3 hours. It was stuck on 58% for at least an hour, and now at 59% for the past 1/2 hour.

Is this normal?

Not sure, I just realized that the thumb drive may be 2;0. Would that also affect the OS installation time?

Semiconductor (USB flash) drive may be very slow if the written cells are not stable enough. I have an SSD that at some operations shows 40-50 KB/sec writing speed. During other operations the same drive easily shows 100 MB/sec.

It just went to 60%. 5 hours now. It a USB 3.0. I could understand the suggestion if it wasn't working at all, but that would mean starting over.
