100% Disk Usage on Windows 11

I am regularly sitting at around 90% - 100% on my disk usage in Task Manager even when nothing is running on my computer. It usually shows the system as the highest running process at that time. I am currently running Windows 11 and have tried everything to fix this to no avail. I already checked for updates and while there is one available, the button to download is gray and unclickable.

I have already performed an SFC Scan and Repair Windows Image process in command prompt, multiple times. I have also performed a clean boot and turned off all non-essential start-up programs. I have run both a virus and malware scans which both came back clean.

I have run out of things to try and am very frustrated. The physical drive is less than a year old, 8 TB (which less than 1 TB is even used), and an SSD.

What else can I do to try and fix this?

I have the same problem. Have tried everything I found in the community and NOTHING works. Why hasn't microsoft bothered to respond and provide and ACTUAL way to fix it. I might have to switch to crapple if microsoft isn't going to provide a resolution to this problem.

I have a similar issue... But after reading your advice, discovered that HP does not support windows 11 for HPPavillion 15 that I purchased just over 4 years ago.

I've not had this problem (100% disk use for apparently no reason) until somewhat recently, So maybe my machine took an update and cause the problem. But I'm not sure how to "downgrade" and go back to some previous version of windows 11

It looks like my current version is 10.0.26100

    Hello ,

I’m here to help you in resolving your issue

Since the "Download" button is grayed out, Windows might be stuck trying to update. Try: Restart Windows Update services

1: Open Command Prompt as Administrator and type below commands

    net stop wuauserv

    net stop cryptSvc

    net stop bits

    net stop msiserver

Then rename the update folders using below commands

    ren C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.old

    ren C:\Windows\System32\catroot2 catroot2.old

    Restart the services:

    net start wuauserv

    net start cryptSvc

    net start bits

    net start msiserver

Restart your PC and check for updates again.

After trying above steps, please reach out to me if you have any doubts or issues

Sfc on its own wil be of no help

Use the System File Checker tool to repair missing or corrupted system files - Microsoft Support

    Likely to be this;

Win11 by default only installs critical security updates, unless you made the mistake of selecting “Get latest updates” which includes drivers.

See your laptop/PC makers support to update both bios and ALL drivers.

There should be a shortcut to that makers update utility on your system.

Then set Bios to defaults & Pwr to balanced. At the end of the day shutdown, do not leave in sleep.

Do NOT update from any other source inc Device Manager

You only need to set the Advanced options for notify & Time, then leave win update to do its own thing.

If a self-build drivers/bios update via the mobo makers support site + any vid card site
