How do I remove the folder & contents $AV_NLL from my data partition

Hi

I recently discovered a folder labelled $AV_NLL containing a sub folder $VAULT which contains a file Vault.db.

This might be related to an old programme that I no longer have on my system.

I have tried to delete it both in Windows and Safe Mode but it won't allow me as it is a read only file that won's allow me to change this even in safe mode

Can anyone tell me how to get rid of this folder and its contents.

Regards

Eric Athroll

    Hi EGA1938.

    Welcome to the Microsoft Community.

You want to delete the "$AV_NLL" folder on your computer. This folder is a quarantined file generated by Norton, Avast or other third-party antivirus software. Have you used such software before?

Open the third-party antivirus software you use, if it has been deleted, please install it back. Then use the software to clean up the files quarantined by the security software. The "$AV_NLL" folder should be cleared.

If you are using Norton, then you need to go to its settings interface "Setting"-"General", turn off the "Product Tamper Protection" function, and then you can manually delete the folder.

This worked perfect and was so easy. Problem was Norton put it in the wrong drive too also.

Just did as you suggested and yes, it allowed me to change the read only and then delete the files. Thanks again.

    Hi

Thanks for the help. I don't recall ever having any software on this computer other than Norton. I will try your solution and report back in due course.

    Regards

    Eric
