Why does my mouse pointer get larger on its own when set to the smallest setting? It's when I touch my screen it gets bigger.

I have an HP ENVY x360 Laptop with AMD Ryzen 5 and AMD Radeon Graphics. MY cpu is fully up to date on windows updates and my mouse driver is up to date as well. My issue is, every time I touch my screen, my mouse pointer enlarges automatically. Its settings is set to 1 which is the smallest you can have you mouse pointer at. The recommended scaling is 150% which it is set to. I am unsure why this is happening and would like to see if there is a way to fix this issue. It is very frustrating as I do not need my mouse pointer to be so big. Especially when it is set to the smallest setting.

As of just recently (within the past week), my HP Spectre x360 reboots with an enlarged Mouse Pointer. It wasn't doing this before a week ago. Now it is enlarged with every reboot. What is going on? HELP?

    Dear Sarah Thompson7,

Thank you for reaching out with your issue regarding the mouse pointer enlarging when you touch your screen.

Based on your description, it sounds like the issue might be related to a combination of display scaling settings and touchscreen or graphics driver configurations.

Here are some suggestions you can try in addition to what Palcouk mentioned:

    Clean Boot:

Performing a clean boot can help determine if a background application is causing the issue. This will start Windows with only essential drivers and services running:

Press Windows + R, type msconfig, and press Enter.

Under the General tab, select Selective startup and uncheck Load startup items.

Under the Services tab, check Hide all Microsoft services and click Disable all.

Click Apply and restart your laptop.

After the clean boot, check if the issue persists. If it doesn't, you can gradually enable services and startup items to identify the culprit.

Disclaimer: A “clean boot” starts Windows with a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. It helps to determine whether a background service is interfering with your game or program and to isolate the cause of a problem.
These steps of "clean boot" might look complicated at first glance. However, to avoid any trouble for you, please follow them in order and step-by step so that it will help you get back on track.

Uninstall and Reinstall Graphics Driver Using DDU:

Sometimes, the graphics driver might cause issues with mouse pointers, especially with touch-enabled laptops. To uninstall and reinstall the driver cleanly, use Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU):

For more information on how to use DDU, you can refer to the guidance notes provided by Intel's official website, which is based on an example of an Intel graphics card, and is equally applicable to NVIDIA and AMD graphics cards.

How to Use the Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) to Uninstall an...

Afterward, reinstall the latest AMD graphics driver from the HP support site or the official AMD website.

    Create a New User Account:

A corrupt user profile can sometimes cause strange issues with settings like pointer size. You can create a new account to see if the issue persists there:

Go to Settings > Accounts > Other users.

Click Add someone else to this PC, and follow the prompts to create a new local or Microsoft account.

Log into the new account and check if the mouse pointer behaves as expected.

If you’ve tried all of the above and the issue persists, I recommend reaching out to the HP support for further guidance. There may be other system-specific fixes or known issues related to your model.

Looking forward to hearing about your progress!

    Best Regards,

If you mean win display scalling the recommended is 100% changing this can have unintended consequences.

Win11 by default only installs critical security updates, unless you made the mistake of selecting “Get latest updates” which includes drivers.

See your laptop/PC makers support to update both bios and ALL drivers.

There should be a shortcut to that makers update utility on your system.

Then set Bios to defaults & Pwr to balanced. At the end of the day shutdown, do not leave in sleep.

Do NOT update from any other source inc Device Manager
