Will Windows Subsystem for Android (WSA) stay executable after 05 March 2025 if already installed at that time?

Quite recently I bought a PC running Windows 11 and was very glad about the option to also run Android apps in the Windows Subsystem for Android (WSA).

In fact I have 3 Android apps that I'd like to run, which are not avaible in the Amazon Appstore but have to be installed via APK.

Thus I only realised that the support for the WSA will be terminated on 05 March 2025 after having completed the setup two of my apps.

Fortunately I haven't already bought the 3rd app.

Here's my question:

Will WSA stay executable after 05 March 2025, if it is already installed under Windows 11 at that time?

Or are there plans to remove it with a future build of Windows 11 distributed via Windows Update?

In the the latter case I'd refrain from spending more work and money on it.

Smartphone-Link is not a real alternative for me, since it seems not to be able to show an app on the full PC-Screen but only mirrows exactly the format of the Smartphone-Screen.

Thank you for your answer in advance.

Best regards

Petra

    Hey P. Becker,

After March 5, 2025, WSA should still work if it’s already installed, but Microsoft will stop supporting it—meaning no more updates or fixes. That said, there’s no official word yet on whether they’ll fully phase it out or block it in future updates, so it’s worth keeping an eye out for any announcements.

If you're looking for alternatives to run Android apps, there are a few good options: BlueStacks, NoxPlayer, LDPlayer, MEmu, and Smartphone Link / Your Phon i e app. While these alternatives can give you similar functionality, they’re not as tightly integrated with Windows like WSA is, so they might not be as smooth of an experience.

After the march 5 update, my WSA completely vanished and the subsystem, while showing up in registryc was removed and does not even open. sideloading new apps or updating my current ones from store runs into an error because it cant find necessary drivers. Some apps run and others will not. games i have from google play work fine tho. i cant use emu with my apps, they run risk of bans in some games and on some apps where it violates the TOS to use a VM or emulator due to potential to abuse it. i used android sdk before, and duel booted with windows but thats pretty inconvenient. i feel like they let people down with this removal. i get why, but they went about the whole android thing wrong to start with. it was nice having everything in front of me on one device instead of navigating two.
