Game Launchers think my laptop isn't conntected/ fully connected to the internet.

Hello,

I recently moved house, and we ended up getting a high speed fibre internet connection here, the same as what I had before in the old house, with the same company.

The only difference is, now that when I try to open up game lauchers on my laptop, something is wrong.

Steam came up looking all strange. None of the images loaded up, and the download rate is just 0.

I can't even open up Origin, as it says I am not connected to the internet.

GOG opens up, similar to steam, and even some of the pictures load, but only a few, before it stops trying to load anything else.#

I uninstalled steam, thinking I could repair it by re-installing, but now it won't even let me re-install it, saying "You must be connected to the internet to do this".

I have tried opening these launchers on both wireless and wired connection to the modem, and it's the same either way, so it's not a wireless connection issue.

When I do internet speed tests, it tells me what it should be, that my internet is high speed, and working fine.

Please somebody help me figure out what the problem is.

I tried some suggestions I saw online already, like disable all firewalls and anti-viruses, but that changed nothing.

Thanks for reading.

I'm glad you solved the problem. This is indeed a very hidden problem, and it is difficult to notice that there is a problem with the system time, especially now that all devices connected to the Internet will automatically sync the time. We will record the relationship between the system time and the game launcher. Thank you for reporting the problem and solution in the community, which will help more users who encounter the same problem as you. .Thanks again for helping us build a better community.

    Best regards

    Hi,

    I try to help.

Is your PC connected to a WIFI router?

It might be the cause of the problem.

Same thing happened to me before, I need to install a game through a game launcher, all apps and games are working fine but only that specific game launcher can't download the game because it's giving an internet connection error message. What I did to fix it was get an ethernet cable and directly connect my PC to the ISP modem.

I hope this will fix your problem.

Thanks for the extra information, it will be helpful. Can other software that uses the network run? For example, online chat software.

Since your browser can access the web version of Steam, it is certain that this is not a problem with the network service itself.

You can reset all network settings in the following way:

    1. Press "win + i" to open the settings, and go to "Network and Internet"-"Status"-"Network Reset" in turn.
    2. Click "Reset Now" to reset.
    3. Restart the computer, and you need to reconnect to the network.

Now see if the network problem is solved.

If it still cannot be repaired, then this may be a damage to the system itself. You can try to use MediaCreationTool to repair the Windows system. (Usually this will not delete personal files, but for safety reasons, you still need to back up your files)

    1. Make sure that the C drive has 20G of free space. Visit the following website to download MediaCreationTool

    Download Windows 11

    1. Open the program, follow the software instructions until "Select Installation Media", select "ISO"
    2. Continue to follow the software instructions until the ISO installation media is generated.
    3. Open "Windows.iso" - "setup.exe" in sequence
    4. Continue to follow the software instructions until "Change what to keep", choose to keep "Personal files and applications"
    5. During the installation of the system, your computer will automatically restart several times, please do not interfere and make sure to plug in the power supply.

After the end, your Windows system will be repaired.

    Hi Raylan.

It is only the game launchers that aren't working. web browsers work, youtube videos work, and as you mentioned, the the steam website works on the browser.

I vaguely recall fiddling with proxy settings a year ago, but I can't remember what I did, or if I ever actually properly set up a proxy server in the end.

I wouldn't know how to turn it back on if there was one set up somewhere.

There is certainly no VPN or Network proxy software on my computer, however.

I went on to follow the other steps you have mentioned, and, I noticed that my computer was already set to Automatically detect settings, in the LAN settings, so there was no need to untick any proxy settings, if that helps.

One thing I noticed while entering one of the commands into the command line was that it said that my media was disconnected.

Is it supposed to say that because of one of the other commands you had me type? Or is that a problem?

I have followed all of the steps, but it still hasn't resolved.

Thank you for your time, anyhow.

    Hi Aaron Danaher.

    Welcome to the Microsoft Community.

All your game launchers cannot access the Internet. For your computer, is it that all software cannot access the Internet or only the listed software cannot access the Internet? Can the browser access the Internet? If so, these game launchers have their own web versions. Can the web versions access the Internet?

If you have used any VPN or network proxy, you need to turn it back on, then turn off the network proxy switch in the software, and then exit the software normally. At this time, your network is likely to be normal. If you have not used a network proxy, you can reset the network settings in the following way:

    1. Press "win + R" to open "Run", enter "cmd" in "Run" and press "Ctrl + Shift + Enter" at the same time to open the command line window with administrator privileges.
    2. Enter the following commands in the pop-up command box in sequence, and press "enter" to execute each input. (Enter the next line after each line is run) ipconfig /release ipconfig /renew ipconfig /flushdns ipconfig /registerdns netsh int ip reset netsh winsock reset netsh winhttp reset proxy
    3. Restart the computer to see if the problem can be solved.

If the problem persists, you can set DNS as follows:

    1. Press "win+R" and enter ncpa.cpl
    2. Click the name of the network you are currently connected to, open the Network Status window, click Properties, and double-click Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP / IPv4) in the Network Properties window.
    3. Manually set the DNS server to "4.2.2.1" and "4.2.2.2" (if this set of DNS is unsuccessful, try "(8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4)" or "(1.1.1.1 and 1.0.0.1)"), confirm and restart the computer to see if the problem can be solved.

If the problem is not solved, the following methods can also help you reset other network settings:

    1. Press "win+R", enter inetcpl.cpl, open Internet Options, click "Advanced", and check "Use SSL 3.0", "Use TLS 1.0", "Use TLS 1.1", "Use TLS 1.2", "Use TLS 1.3", and click "Apply".
    2. Go back to the first step of Internet Options, click Connections, click LAN Settings, and check whether the proxy server column is checked. If so, please uncheck it and click "Apply".
    3. Restart the computer to see if the problem is solved.
