Windows not remembering audio settings with headphones

Hi,

I recently got a new laptop, an HP ProBook 450 G10 with Windows 11 Pro.

I have a very annoying issue: I usually keep the speakers on mute and turn the sound on when I have the bluetooth headphones connected. My previous pc was automatically unmuting when the headphones got connected and go back to mute when they were disconnected. This laptop is not doing it and it's incredibly annoying. I cannot find any setting related to this, can you help me?

    Hi again Ivan,

"Windows will keep the last configuration made" that's exactly the problem, it doesn't.

Here you can see a video where I connect the headphones -> unmute -> disconnect the headphones, laptop goes to mute (this also doesn't happen always) -> turn on again the headphones and mute is still there.

    Thank you for your patience.

    Hi ,

I understood strange that I did the test and it worked as I reported, do the following keep the realtek as default this with headphones connected then access volume mix in each application you select down arrow and put bluetooth headphones unmuted this with realtek muted and bluetooth unmuted and do the test keeping the realtek muted and bluetooth unmuted this realtek being default.

    Hi ,

I understand that in this case, do the following: I did a test: you will access the settings in the volume mixing tab, put Bluetooth on and then unmute it > disconnect Bluetooth and it will change to Realtek, in this you will mute Realtek.

Then connect Bluetooth again and check if it is unmuted.

Windows will keep the last configuration made if you have muted Bluetooth, it will remain muted until you change it. If you disconnect and connect, it will keep the last configuration, at least in Windows 11, in 10 it was different.

    Hope this helps.

    Hi Ivan,

I believe I didn't explain clearly my issue.

The laptop has no issue in connecting to the headphones and using it as a default device, the problem is that it will stay on mute even after the headphones are connected.

Here some screenshots to explain better, the headphones are set as default. If I have the laptop with the sound off and I turn them on again the laptop will stay with the sound off, but I want the sound to be on when the headphones are connected, it should be automatic as it was on my previous laptop. It happens with all the bluetooth headphones I have.

    Hope this clarifies, thank you.

    Hi ,

I am Ivan, I will help you with this.

You can configure it in the sound control panel, in which case you will access the start menu > settings > system > sound > sound control panel > in the playback tab select the Bluetooth headphone (it must be connected) right-click and select set as default and communication and apply.

Then access the volume mixer output device and select the Bluetooth one.

That's it, every time you disconnect it will go to the Realtek one, when you connect the Bluetooth one it will automatically change to the Bluetooth headphone.

    Hope this helps.
