Touchpad Lagging & Double-Tap Not Working After Windows 11 24H2 Update

Hi everyone,

I recently updated my Lenovo Slim 6i (i5-1240P) laptop to Windows 11 (24H2 update - 2024), and since then, I’ve been having issues with my touchpad:

  • The cursor movement is laggy and stutters, making it difficult to use smoothly.
  • Double-tap to open files or folders is not working, so I have to use the physical button every time.

I’ve already tried:
Updating the touchpad driver
Uninstalling and reinstalling the driver
Making sure Windows and all apps are fully updated

But the issue still persists. Everything was working perfectly before the update.

Has anyone else faced this after the 24H2 update? Any solutions would be really appreciated!

Thanks in advance! 😊

Hello. I had the same problem on Asus laptop after a windows update. I have solved it by opening the touchpad settings. And unchecking the option "Double tap and drag to select multiple items". After disabling this option, everything works as before.

I have a Legion 5 Pro 16IAH7H and I had the same issue with 24H2 breaking the trackpad taps. My mouse isn't stuttering, but I need to triple tap everything that required a double tap before (opening folders, selecting text, etc.). When I do double tap, the system seems to interpret it as a single tap. So like double tapping a file or folder prompts me to rename it which should be a single tap behavior. No idea why it's ignoring the first tap.

I just had to role back the update a few minutes ago on my Lenovo laptop. It completely broke my trackpad driver, rendering it not functional. No drivers for my trackpad work on this build of windows either.

If you have installed this update, might be a good idea to go to Settings >System > Recovery > Go back

This will uninstall this broken build if you just installed it.

I'm having the same issue on a Lenovo laptop I just bought that came with Windows 11. Please help! I tried the steps provided by support staff, but they didn't work or were not possible for me.

    Hi BerryAlen.

    Welcome to the Microsoft Community.

Your touchpad is not working properly after updating to the latest version of Windows 11, and you have made many attempts to fix this problem. If the touchpad itself is not damaged, then this may be a compatibility issue between the latest version of Windows and your touchpad. You can first try to adjust the relevant settings of the touchpad to fix the problem:

    1. Press "win + i" to open the settings, and then go to "Bluetooth and other devices" - "Touchpad"
    2. Turn off touch feedback to see if the problem is solved.

If you can't find this option, you can try to turn the touchpad on and off using the shortcut keys on the laptop's built-in keyboard to see if this solves the problem. (Press FN and F? on the laptop's built-in keyboard at the same time to disable or enable the touchpad. F? is one of the F1-F12 keys with a finger pointing to a square on it)

If the above method does not work, you can try to uninstall the latest Windows update to see if it causes compatibility issues with your touchpad. You can uninstall the update package in the following way and use wushowhide.diagcab to prevent the update from appearing in the list.

    1. Press "win + i" to open the settings.
    2. Go to "System" - "Windows Update" - "Update History" - "Uninstall Updates" in sequence.
    3. In this interface, you can find the update that caused the problem and uninstall it.

Restart your computer. If your computer returns to normal at this time, you can hide Windows updates by following the steps below:

    1. Download wushowhide.diagcab from the following website:

    http://download.microsoft.com/download/F/2/2/F22D5FDB-59CD-4275-8C95-1BE17BF70B21/wushowhide.diagcab

    1. Open this program, click Next, and select "hide updates".
    2. Here, you can find the updates that caused the problem, check them, and click Next. Now the update package you selected will no longer be pushed to you.

    Best Regards,
