I have an Asus laptop which came with a 256gb SSD C: drive and I installed a 1 tb SSD D: drive a couple of years ago. No problems so far. I have cloned the C: drive to a new 1 tb SSD drive and replaced the new drive into the laptop. The new 1 TB SSD C: drive boots up no problem BUT when I try and access the D: drive it asks for a Bitlocker key. I have found the key so can access the data on my D: drive.

What do I need to do to fix the issue so that I do not have to go and get a key every time I access the D: drive.

Any advice please

BitLocker encryption is now turned off. Are you still being asked for the BitLocker key or just the UAC consent to access the files? A screenshot will be helpful.

If it's just the UAC prompt to access the files on your D drive, taking ownership of the files or the parent folder should help.

You can run the following REG file, which adds the "Take Ownership" command to the right-click menu.

Once added, press the Shift key, right-click on a file or folder, and choose "Take ownership" from the context menu. This changes the ownership of the files in that folder recursively.

Hi, Please open an admin Command Prompt and run:

    manage-bde -status

    Post the output.

    Thanks Ramesh

Reading the article it looks like the ability to turn on or off the auto unlock function comes with Windows 11 Pro, Enterprise and education editions not for HOME edition

I will look at the article in more detail but this might not resolve my issue.

    investigating further

    Hi, This is Ramesh.

This issue can occur after cloning the disk. Please see if enabling the "Turn on auto-unlock" option for the D drive helps.
