Why is my selection locked?

I opened my Word document and when I went to edit the document I got a message that said something along the lines of how 'selection is locked'. How is this fixed?

    Hi Dave, I am so sorry it took me a couple of days to get back to you.

    I did what you said and went to my account. Word did not have the document I was working on licensed so I clicked on their 'Manage Account' button which sent me to a webpage that did not exist.

    I do not use Word often, so this is the only document I am actively using. I did not create this document but I have created multiple copies while trying to figure out how to fix this issue.

    Open that file in Word.

    Go to File - Account.

    On the resulting window is it indicated your Microsoft Office licence is currently activated correctly?

    If your Office licence is activated correctly, is this problem only affecting one document?

    If it is, did you create that document your self or was it sent to you?
