Hello Fred N_880,   Welcome to Microsoft Community. The reason why the "Task View" icon is missing in Windows 10 Home could be because it is hidden, disabled, or there is an issue with the taskbar settings. Here are some step-by-step methods to troubleshoot and resolve the issue. Hopefully, they will help you:

    1. Check if the "Task View" Button is Hidden on the Taskbar
    • Right-click on an empty space on the taskbar.
    • In the context menu that appears, check if there is an option called "Show Task View button."
    • If it is unchecked, click to select it. The "Task View" icon should immediately appear on the taskbar.
    • If it is already checked but the icon is still missing, try unchecking and then rechecking it.
    1. Use the Keyboard Shortcut to Confirm if the Feature Works
    • Press Windows key + Tab. This is the keyboard shortcut for "Task View."
    • If the "Task View" interface opens normally, it means the feature itself is working fine, but the icon may be hidden.
    1. Check if the Taskbar is Experiencing Issues
    • Sometimes, the taskbar may fail to load correctly due to a system error. Try restarting Windows Explorer:
      • Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
      • Under the Processes tab, find Windows Explorer.
      • Right-click it and select Restart.
    • After the restart, check if the "Task View" icon is back.
    1. Confirm if Tablet Mode is Enabled
    • In Tablet Mode, the taskbar may hide certain features.
    • Click the Notification icon at the bottom right of the taskbar (next to the speaker icon).
    • Check if Tablet Mode is enabled (it will be highlighted in blue if active).
    • If it is enabled, click to turn it off and see if the "Task View" icon reappears.
    1. Check Registry Settings (For Advanced Users)
    • Sometimes, registry settings might be accidentally changed, causing the icon to disappear:
      • Press Windows key + R, type regedit, and press Enter to open the Registry Editor.
      • Navigate to:HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced
      • Look for an entry named ShowTaskViewButton.
      • If it exists, ensure its value is set to 1 (which means the button is visible). If it is 0, double-click it and change the value to 1.
      • If the entry doesn’t exist, right-click on an empty space, select New > DWORD (32-bit) Value, name it ShowTaskViewButton, and set its value to 1.
      • Restart your computer and check if the icon appears. Disclaimer: Generally, modifying registry subkeys or work group is intended for advanced users, administrators, and IT Professionals. It can help fix some problems, however, serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you follow these steps carefully. For further protection, back up the registry before you modify it. Then, you can restore the registry if a problem occurs. For more information about how to back up and restore the registry, click How to back up and restore the registry in Windows - Microsoft Support to view the article. If none of these methods work, it could be due to a deeper system issue caused by recent updates or software conflicts. Feel free to share more details, such as recent changes or third-party software that might interfere with the taskbar, and I can provide further assistance.Best wishesLeo.Z | Microsoft Community Support Specialist
