Keyboard not recognized+ driver update error with keyboard class filter driver.

(Using on-screen keyboard so please don't mind grammar.) One day my keyboard stopped working so I followed instructions and uninstalled and reinstalled the driver and now Its not working but connected. It shows an error message when trying to update the driver. It also says something about keyboard class filter driver. Using the Vulcan II max by the way. I used the software driver update and it says its good and up to date and then I check my device manager and it says unknown device and still failing to update. There are so many drivers, I don't know what to download and I doubt it'll work. NVidia drivers didn't do anything with the keyboard.

I feel your pain, I did all the fixes I could find from uninstalling device to refresh of win11 and problem kept coming back.

This fix is from u/bbfosho0 on reddit:

    • Go into device manager
    • Check the keyboards tab and unknown devices tab. (If its just your keyboard that's acting out, all the unknown devices within these tabs should be associated to it. If its both mouse and keyboard, then I suggest you plug in only the keyboard to do the process, then do it with your mouse after)
    • Right click these devices, click update, select "browse my computer for drivers"
    • Select "let me pick from a list of available drivers on my computer"
    • for all the keyboard devices, install "HID Keyboard Device"
    • for all the mouse devices, install the "HID-compliant mouse"

Hopefully this works long term but I'm not optimistic.

This is a device discovery issue, with windows miss identifying device and recommending wrong driver.

This worked!!! Thank you so much. I wish I found this fix before scouring the internet and trying all sorts of fixes, ultimately reinstalling my entire freaking OS from scratch... Wasted an entire precious day where I had so much needing to be done in so little time. God this was absurd and I'm so f'ing furious. No clue why the Logitech drivers were failing to identify my keyboard because it...couldnt apply the driver for some reason? It was trying to apparently update the "HotKey Keyboard Class Filter Driver" but didnt for go who knows why. But after changing every "unknown device" driver to "HID Keyboard Device" it decided to magically work and proceed to then successfully update the driver to the HotKey driver. Just so unbelievable. Now I'm screwed in so many ways because of this. Perfect.

    Hi Kre,

Since the registry fix didn't resolve the issue, let's try repairing any potential system file corruption that might be interfering with the keyboard driver installation. This solution involves running the System File Checker and DISM to restore any damaged system files.

Here's what you need to do:

    • Open an elevated Command Prompt. Search "cmd" in the Search bar. Right click and "open as administrator".
    • Type

    DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

and press Enter. Allow DISM to complete its repair process, which might also take a while.

    • After DISM repair, in the Command Prompt window, type

    sfc /scannow

and press Enter. Wait for the scan to complete (it may take some time). This command will check for and repair any corrupted system files.

After both scans are complete, restart your computer. Once restarted, check Device Manager to see if your keyboard is now recognized correctly.

Please try these steps and let me know if this solution helps or if you need further assistance.

    Dear Kre Carson

Thank you for posting in the Microsoft Community,

Many users have reported problems with some of the keyboard filter drivers not working.

This may be due to the stricter driver review mechanism introduced by Windows 11 24H2.

You can try to force reboot three times, go to WinRE interface > Advanced Options > Troubleshooting > Uninstall the latest Windows update.

In addition, this issue may be related to Windows Defender's kernel isolation feature.

You can try to turn off kernel isolation in Defender for further testing.
