Lock Screen slidshow will not work

Hello,

I recently ran into an issue where slideshow I set up for my lock screen will not work. The slideshow for when my pc goes to sleep works fine and my desktop background changes like it should.

My lock screen used to be just the generic windows blue swirl, but I changed it to a specific photo and that worked. But when I change it to slideshow and designate the correct folder, it stays as the singular photo that was selected.

I have tried a few of the solutions I saw on the forums but none have worked so far.

    Thanks for checking.

Clear & Reset Lock Screen Cache

    1: Go to C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\SystemData

2: You’ll need to take ownership of the folder and subfolders (search "take ownership Windows folder").

3: Delete the folder related to your user profile (it will be a long string like S-1-5-21...) > Windows will recreate it.

Follow below steps to take Ownership of SystemData Folder

    1. Right-click on the SystemData folder > Properties.
    2. Go to the Security tab > Click Advanced.
    3. At the top, next to Owner, click Change.
    4. Type your username, click Check Names, then OK.
    5. Back in the Advanced window, check "Replace owner on subcontainers and objects".
    6. Click Apply and then OK.

You might need to add your user to the permission list:

Back in Security tab, click Edit > Add, type your username, click Check Names, and then give it Full control.

Restart your PC and check if the issue still persists.

    Hi,

There is no option to allow sub-folders, however they aren't in a sub-folder.

I don't believe that any of them are DRM-protected. Some are screenshots from games I have played. They were in a folder on my desktop, and I do not use onedrive.

The images are either .jpeg or .png

I tried setting up a new file in the following filepath: C:\Users\Wallpaper2 but this also did not work.

    Thank you

    Thanks for checking.

    1. Are the images in a subfolder?

If yes, make sure “Include subfolders” is enabled when choosing the slideshow folder.

    1. Are the images DRM-protected or in a sync folder like OneDrive?

Move them to a local folder like C:\Pictures\LockscreenSlideshow.

    1. What is the image format?

Make sure all files in the folder are valid .jpg or .png.

    Meanwhile , Try below steps

1: Set Up a Clean Folder

    a. Create a new folder, e.g.,

    C:\Users<YourName>\Pictures\LockscreenSlides

    b. Copy only clean .jpg or .png files into it , try 3 - 5 images first.

    c. Make sure the folder has read permissions for all users.

    2: Configure Lock Screen Properly

    a. Open Settings > Personalization > Lock screen

    b. Set Background to Slideshow

    c. Click Browse, choose the new folder

    d. Turn ON:

Include Camera Roll folders from this PC and OneDrive (if using Camera Roll)

Let slideshow run even if battery saver is on

    1. Try another regsitry editor.

    a. Press Win + R > type regedit > Enter

    b. Go to:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Personalization

    c. If "Personalization" doesn’t exist, right-click > New > Key > name it Personalization

    d. In that key:

    Right-click > New > DWORD (32-bit) Value

    Name: NoLockScreenSlideshow

    Set value to 0

    Close Registry Editor

    e. Restart

    Hi,

I tried both of those and neither of them worked.

When I went into regedit i went to the setting and it was already set to 1, so I changed it to 0 and back to 1.

    Thanks

    Hello ,

I’m here to help you in resolving your issue

    Reset Lock Screen Slideshow Settings

4: Restart your computer and try setting the slideshow again.

Edit the Registry (For Windows 11 Home)

1: Press Win + R, type regedit, and press Enter.

    2: Navigate to:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Lock Screen

3: Look for SlideshowEnabled and set its value to 1 (if missing, create it as a DWORD (32-bit) Value).
