ifxit has a guide to fix the drive not being read, step 3 is where you want to go and fix it but you need to have disk management open to do step three so therefore go to the search bar and type disk management and then look for the unallocated section for the drive, it should have the most storage, you want to create a new volume and then set it up and then the drive will start working again I'm unsure if it works on 11 or not but I am assuming it would
