My headset does not produce sound, nor recieve voice input. Also, I uninstalled the drivers trying to solve this problem and they didn't reinstall automatically.

This computer was bought used from a friend of mine. He did not have these issues, but he was also on windows 10 and I had to buy a new motherboard for windows 11 anyway. He suggested this problem might be related to the motherboard somehow, but I'm open to explore any options. In case it's important, the motherboard is TUF GAMING B550-PLUS WIFI II.

This headset (Razer blackshark v2 x) came with a software download for surround sound, but it is failing to recognize the drivers for my headset. I called their support line and we fiddled around a bit but no dice. They said to call windows support for help. Additionally, I have another set of headphones with a mic and while the headphones work fine, the mic does not work. Also, the software won't accept any other driver besides 7.1 surround, even if the headset is still using it.

I also have a laptop with windows 11 installed and I do not have these issues on the laptop. I can't test whether it works with the software or not, unfortunately, because apparently I can only use the software with an activation code and that activation code can only be used on one computer. Anyways, I was trying to isolate this problem to just my PC and for now I am going to assume that worked. I did notice however, that my device manager had different drivers then what my PC had.

this is what my laptop's device manager looked like(https://imgur.com/a/HCpTaoN). Unfortunately I don't have a screenshot with what the PC's device manager initially showed for the drivers at the moment. I uninstalled all of my audio drivers under "Sound, video and game controllers" earlier today in an attempt to follow advice from a similar post on here. I can't find them anymore and they didn't automatically reinstall when I checked for updates & restarted the PC. I do need help fixing that too.

Here's what my desktop's device manager shows with the splitter plugged in (https://imgur.com/a/Hi8p1sI). The drivers that I expected to find for the speakers would be named 7.1 surround or something including that. I'm forgetting what the drivers showed for the headset microphone, or if they even showed up.

some notes:

  • the headset is currently (as of the above screenshot) plugged in with a splitter, with a green and pink tipped plug going into the rear panel of my pc where there is Line out & Mic in, respectively.
  • this is the screenshot for when I plugged in the headphones into my front panel audio jack without the splitter(https://imgur.com/a/2TgImJB). I don't know if it makes a difference but I am just including everything I've tried.
  • when testing the audio in settings of the 7.1 surround 'devices', I did not hear audio. The tests to check the microphone also did not work, although when my headset was plugged in with the splitter in the rear panel, I at least got to see the little bar move as I talked into the mic. it told me the volume was 23%, yet would not play back any audio. This issue persisted after I deleted the drivers, but I tested the Realtek(R) Audio device instead. there is no input device when I am using the front panel.

I don't know what I am doing but I tried to document all of the things I checked and tried, but I may have forgotten something, so I can try something again if it helps.

Thanks, Gabe.

Hello Gabe, Welcome to Microsoft Community.

"Thank you for providing such thorough details about the situation! I understand how frustrating these technical challenges can be—let’s address your concerns step by step:

    1. Reinstalling Drivers: Since the drivers didn’t automatically reinstall, try manually downloading them from the ASUS Support Page. Look for audio drivers specifically compatible with Windows 11 and Realtek. Make sure to install any chipset drivers first as they may be required for audio driver compatibility.
    2. Testing Audio Devices:
      • Ensure the Razer BlackShark V2 X is set as the default audio device in the Sound settings.
      • Plug the headset directly into the rear panel jacks without the splitter to isolate whether the splitter is causing issues.
      • If the mic bar moves during testing but audio playback fails, it indicates a software or driver issue rather than hardware failure.
    3. Software Configuration: Reinstall the Razer surround sound software and check for updates from the Razer Support Page. Ensure that only one audio driver is active to avoid conflicts between Realtek and Razer’s software.
    4. Alternative Workarounds:
      • Consider using a USB external sound card to bypass potential motherboard-related issues with analog audio ports.
      • Update your BIOS firmware to the latest version available on the ASUS Support Page—sometimes motherboard updates address compatibility issues.
      • For your secondary headset, check if the microphone settings in Device Manager are disabled or need reconfiguration.

Let me know if you need further clarification on any step!"

PS: I understand that troubleshooting can be exhausting—especially when you've tried so many fixes already. Make sure to back up your system before making significant changes like BIOS updates. If things feel overwhelming, take it one step at a time. I'm here to assist you through it!
