Why Microsoft, Just Why?

Why the H on Earth you need my Location Information to show me my own WiFi's internal stats?

There will be time, when you guys even ask for blood group, and DNA too.

C:\Users\UT>netsh wlan sh int all

There is 1 interface on the system:

Network shell commands need location permission to access WLAN information. Turn on Location services on the Location page in Privacy & security settings.

Here is the URI for the Location page in the Settings app:

ms-settings:privacy-location

To open the Location page in the Settings app, hold down the Ctrl key and select the link, or run the following command:

start ms-settings:privacy-location

Or, to open the Location page from the Run dialog box, press Windows logo key + R, and then copy and paste the URI above.

Function WlanQueryInterface returns error 5:

Access is denied.

This does not work, even in an administrative powershell session:

PS C:\WINDOWS\system32> netsh wlan show network  mode=bssid

    Interface name : Wi-Fi

Network shell commands need location permission to access WLAN information. Turn on Location services on the Location page in Privacy & security settings.

Here is the URI for the Location page in the Settings app: ms-settings:privacy-location

To open the Location page in the Settings app, run the following command:

    start ms-settings:privacy-location

Or, to open the Location page from the Run dialog box, press Windows logo key + R, and then copy and paste the URI above.

    Access is denied.

This seems to contradict your answer, Shawn.

This has broken an internal tool and turning location access on is not an option.

Most Microsoft or Independent Advisor's notifications for new posts are designed to drop monitoring for threads within just a few days of that particular helper's last post, so your long delay in response is what's gotten you ignored. Old threads often continue to collect new posts that would only serve to waste the time of these paid individuals.

Only some traditional volunteer helpers like me typically browse the forums directly to monitor for threads, so your actions within your thread will also factor into whether you receive a response from such volunteers, since most assume you're likely to act similarly in any future response to them.

    Shawn,

I find your lack of response concerning, but par for the course.

Thanks as always for the sub-par support your monopoly affords you

    Dear Roy Dave

Thank you for posting in the Microsoft community.

Both the Windows and the Triple Locator programs are using your current IP location!

Wifi signal strength and other network parameters can be used to infer the general geographic location of the device.

By scanning nearby Wi-Fi networks and returning packet delays, the system can estimate the approximate location of the device. It is mainly used for some device localization and retrieval.

    For the command part:

You can press WIN+R to enter

    ms-settings:privacy-location

Notice here that there is a subtle difference between the command

This command enables the privacy settings on your system so that the system and applications can access your current IP and WIFI information, and only then can you calculate your approximate geographic location. (This is the only way to calculate your approximate physical location (they are not very accurate and have a margin of error of 5-20 meters).

    C:\User\UT

Means you are using User privilege to access all wlan information, may not have enough privileges.

Suggest you can press WIN+S to search for CMD-right-click to Run as administrator and type in

    netsh wlan sh int all

Microsoft does not require additional location information from you if there is no separate need. Even if the relevant privacy settings are not turned on, this feature of netsh wlan sh int all is not affected.

    Best Wish
