Asus SBW-06D2X-U Blu-ray Drive Not Detected on Windows 11 – FIX

If you have an Asus SBW-06D2X-U Blu-ray Drive and you are having issues getting it detected, follow these steps, and you will be able to get it back working.

On newer updates, CD DVD ROMs have become legacy components. Some of the recognition methods for the autodetect hardware have been modified or removed, so when you plug your legacy device, it's not properly recognized by Windows.

Here are a few steps you can take to ensure your pc can detect this device.

Open the Windows Registry

Locate this file in this destination if it's not there on the atapi folder, you will have to create a new key

Right-click on atapiNew > Key

Name the key: Controller0

Select the newly created Controller0 key.

In the right pane, right-clickNew > DWORD (32-bit) Value

and name it: EnumDevice1

and edit its value to 1 (hexadecimal value)

This should be your result.

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\atapi\Controller0]

"EnumDevice1"=dword:00000001

Reboot your PC

  1. Open Device Manager
  2. Look for:
     Initio Combo Device Class > Initio Default Controller

  3. Right-click → Uninstall device
  4. Unplug the Blu-ray drive
  5. Plug it back in

It should now be detected under DVD/CD-ROM drives and show up in File Explorer

    Thanks, I've got the same problem, but I do not understand your post fully -- what does this sentence mean:

    "Locate this file in this destination if it is not there..." -- which file? in which destination?

    And:

    If it is not there -- where would I find the correct atapi folder? I do locate one in localMachine/services, but applying your new atapi key there did not result in a Initio Combo device class entry in my device manager listings...

    Best regards, Torsten

    Windows 11 build 22621 release 220506-1250

    The entry has to be created in the registry. Use the Regedit tool. Once you open the regedit tool, go to this path: "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\atapi." If you can't find the complete path, add the subdirectory as needed and then follow these instructions.

    Right-click on atapiNew > Key

    Name the key: Controller0

    Select the newly created Controller0 key.

    In the right pane, right-click → New > DWORD (32-bit) Value

    and name it: EnumDevice1

    And edit its value to 1 (hexadecimal value)

    reboot your pc, and follow the rest of the steps

    Problem solved. One dvd player software program I tested on my PC wrote a LowerFilters entry into the pertinent registry key (but omitted to write an UpperFilters entry),

    the key being HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

    After deleting the orphan LowerFilters entry there, and restarting the PC, Windows device management showed my DVD Rom drive without the yellow attention mark. The drive is working again.
