Windows notification click doesn't bring the app (Slack) to foreground

The Windows' notification doesn't work as I expected.

I'm using Slack app. When the message arrives, the Windows notification pops up in the bottom-right corner.

When I click it, the slack app doesn't come to the foreground.

It only comes to the foreground when the app is closed.

So, in summary, when I click the Slack notification message,

  • [app is closed] Slack is correctly open and comes to the foreground
  • [app is minimized] Nothing happen
  • [app is behind other apps] Nothing happen

My laptop uses

  • Windows 11 Pro 24H2 (windows is up-to-date)
  • Slack version : Production 4.42.115 64-bit

Hey, ChickenNet. I had the same issue. I just upgraded to 24H2. I fixed it in Slack Preferences/Notifications by changing "Deliver notifications via..." to Slack's built-in notifications. I found it set to "Windows Activation Center." Apparently Microsoft hijacked the setting when it ran the upgrade. Thanks again, Microsoft! So helpful!

Jeronimo's reply looks like he asked ChatGPT and just pasted in the response. ChatGPT is often wrong. Just follow my directions above and it should restore the function to bring Slack to the foreground when you click a notification. I did not need to look for any other settings, and several of our people have done exactly the same thing.

I changed by the Slack setting "Deliver notifications via..." to "Slack's built-in notifications".
    But:
    1) "Slack's built-in notifications" is a much poor feature; as FBJoel posted below.
    2) Before upgrading to 24H2 Slack was set to "Windows Activation Center" and this was working perfectly. So Microsoft 24H2 has corrupted that (it has not "hijacked the setting when it ran the upgrade").

Thanks for getting this fixed, finally. but this will only work for live notifications, missed ones will be gone, or am I missing something?

I received the Windows 11 update + a new PC and slack is doing the same thing to me. I followed your steps above and in Slack itself there are no options under notifications to bring to foreground. I even checked my online settings to see if it was there and not on the app itself.

The windows settings for Focus are turned off.

    Any other thoughts?

This is a productivity nightmare as we are a hybrid work place and if I accidently click the notification window and all it does is minimize to my tool bar I miss things.
