Hello, I’m Virginia, a fellow user like yourself.

Sorry to hear you’re experiencing problems.

Have you checked the drive for errors by running chkdsk?

    Please try these cmds:

Right click on start & choose powershell/terminal with admin & type/copy & paste these cmds one at a time then click Enter:

    SFC /SCANNOW
    DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /StartComponentCleanup
    DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
    SFC /SCANNOW

Yes the Sfc cmd is run twice.

I’d also recommend running Windows update until nothing else is shown, updating all drivers via the pc manufacturer’s website incl the BIOS if you’re comfortable in doing that & to be sure running a antivirus scan with Malwarebytes.

    Try running these programs:

    MS Safety scanner: https://learn.microsoft.com/microsoft-365/secur...

MBAM free: https://www.malwarebytes.com/mwb-download/ ensure scan for rootkits is enabled.

    Eset online scanner: http://www.eset.com/us/online-scanner/

    Adwcleaner: https://www.malwarebytes.com/adwcleaner/

Also check the router to see if there are any unknown connections:

If these find one or more infections but do not fully remove them it will be wise to register with a malware removal site to receive dedicated malware removal instructions, an expert will remain with you throughout the process until confirmation that your PC is 100% clean.

What was the outcome of the disk check?

If you haven’t run it then you can check if the driver is ‘dirty’ by using this cmd:

fsutil dirty query C: If you have more than one drive fitted then I would run the cmd on all drives changing the drive letter (C) to that of the drive you wish to check beforehand.

    Hello,

Please try running an in-place repair upgrade. This will fix any corrupt system files, run updates, and upgrade to the latest version of Windows 11 (Windows 11, version 24H2).

You can use the Windows 11 Installation Assistant or the Windows 11 ISO. Both these options will get you to Windows 11, version 24H2.

To use the Windows 11 Installation Assistant, download the Windows 11 Installation Assistant and then run it. You should see some prompts telling you about Windows 11 and what it'll install. Let it download and install 24H2.

To use the Windows 11 ISO, download the Windows 11 ISO, (you can find it here, scroll down to where you see ISO for Windows 11 x64 devices), mount it, and then run setup.exe (if you see a UAC prompt, push yes). Follow the prompts on-screen and then let setup.exe update and install Windows 11, 24H2.

Both of these will take a while to install. It's best to do this at night when you're not doing anything important. Just make sure to save your files before you start.

Please also note that the 24H2 ISO is a large download (over 5GB) and will take quite a bit of time to download, especially on a slow network.

Hope this helps, and if you have any questions, don't hesitate to let me know!
