windows 10 IOT enterprise license Issue

Anonymous
2025-04-27T12:17:53+00:00

I have a device that previously ran Windows 10 Pro. Since support for Windows 10 will end in October 2025, I decided to try a 30-day free trial of Windows 10 IoT. Upon checking the system information, I noticed that the product name is listed as Windows 10 IoT Enterprise. Subsequently, I purchased a license for Windows 10 IoT Enterprise LTSC and entered the product key. However, after entering the product key, I encountered an issue where the product name in the system information is displayed as Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC instead of Windows 10 IoT LTSC.

My questions are:

  1. Is Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC the same as Windows 10 IoT Enterprise?
  2. Why does the product key indicate Windows 10 IoT Enterprise, but the system information shows Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC?

Thank you.

Thank you Steven, for sharing the screenshot. Based on the slmgr /dlv output, I can confirm that your system is correctly running Windows 10 IoT Enterprise LTSC. The presence of "IoT Enterprise" in the product description confirms this.

It's common for the System Information or Activation screens to display "Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC" without the "IoT" designation. This is due to Microsoft's branding behavior, as both editions share the same core system files. The distinction lies in the licensing and intended use cases, not in the system's displayed name.

For official confirmation and more details, you can refer to Microsoft's documentation on Windows IoT Enterprise:

Please let me know if you need assistance with anything else.

    Best regards,

    Udit

Glad to hear the explanation helped! To fix the mismatch with the product name, here’s what you can try:

    1. Press Windows + R, type winver, and hit Enter. This will show you the version and edition of Windows you’re currently using.
    2. Open Command Prompt as Administrator.
    • Type this command slmgr /dli

This will provide details about your product’s current state.

    1. If the edition still seems wrong, go to Settings > Update & Security > Activation, then click Change Product Key. Enter your correct Windows 10 IoT Enterprise key, and restart your PC.
    2. If the issue persists, you may need to perform a clean install:
    3. Back up your data.
    4. Download the Windows 10 IoT Enterprise ISO from Microsoft’s website.
    5. Create a bootable USB drive using Rufus or another tool.
    6. Reinstall Windows 10 IoT Enterprise from scratch, and it should show the correct product name.

Let me know if you need any more help or run into any issues! 😊

    Regards.

    Udit.

    Hi Steven,

Thanks for reaching out, I am Udit and I am glad to assist you today. It’s great that you’re exploring different versions of Windows 10, and I can understand why you’d be concerned about the product name mismatch.

    1. Is Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC the same as Windows 10 IoT Enterprise?

I would like to tell you that Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC and Windows 10 IoT Enterprise are not the same, though they do share similarities:

Windows 10 IoT Enterprise is tailored for Internet of Things (IoT) devices like embedded systems, kiosks, and specialized machinery. It offers more customizability for specific use cases in industrial environments.

Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC (Long-Term Servicing Channel) is designed for enterprise environments that need stability and long-term support, but it is generally intended for non-IoT business devices like workstations or servers, which don’t need frequent feature updates.

    1. Why does the product key indicate Windows 10 IoT Enterprise, but the system information shows Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC?

This might be due to the way the system handles product keys for different editions:
When you entered the product key, it seems that the system recognized it as a valid Enterprise LTSC key (which is often more commonly distributed), even though it was intended for IoT Enterprise.

    • System information might default to showing "Enterprise LTSC" because of the similarities in the core architecture of both editions. Windows IoT Enterprise uses the same core code as Enterprise LTSC, but the branding and the way the system categorizes the edition could be causing the discrepancy.
    1. Which is better: Windows 10 IoT or Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC?**

It really depends on your use case:

    • Windows 10 IoT Enterprise is the better choice if you’re working with specialized devices or IoT systems that need a stable but customizable environment for long-term operation.
    • Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC is a better choice for businesses or enterprises that require a stable, secure version of Windows but don’t need the frequent feature updates. It’s typically used for non-IoT systems like servers and legacy hardware.

    Final Thoughts:
If your device is meant for IoT purposes, you should ideally be using Windows 10 IoT Enterprise. If the system information is showing "Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC" after you entered the key, I’d recommend double-checking whether you’ve correctly applied the IoT license or if a clean install might be necessary to ensure you're getting the right version.

I hope this all you needed to know.

    Regard,
    Udit

Thank you for your explanation, my next question is:

how can i correct the name of the product that has already installed ? do you have a manual book or guide book for properly installing windows 10 IOT enterprise product key or fixing my mismatch product name.

    thank you
